Nest Aware subscription and new camera

TSCZJimenez

I have a Nest Aware subscription and can see my first 3 cameras just fine.  I semi-recently purchased another camera that I could ONLY add to the Home app.  For some reason, I cannot get this new camera to give me options to save down videos (like it's not a part of my subscription)  How can I get my subscription to recognize it?  I see all 4 in the Home app.

Hi TS,  I will try and answer your question here.

In the Google Home app you can only save a clip if the camera recorded it as an event in the history.  you can not trim up the start and end like the Nest app.  You can not make a clip out of something if the camera didn't make a clip.

Next here is the procedure that lets you save the clip to your Photo library on your iPhone (I assume it works the same way on Android).  Once it is in your iPhone library it is up to you to share it from there in any way you can.

Here are the instructions thanks for @Brad in a previous post.

Follow the steps below to download a video clip in the Google Home app:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Select your camera.
  3. Tap History near the bottom of the screen.
  4. Scroll to an event in your camera’s video history timeline. You can also tap Full history for a list of events.
  5. Choose the event you want, then tap Event details.

Near the top of the screen, tap Download  to save the video clip to your phone. From there, you can share the video clip via email or social media app.

As you can see it is far more limited than the Nest App.  And I especially miss how you can make and share clips in the Web app for Gen 1 cameras.  The way you do it there is fantastic.

Sounds like you are just discovering what many people here found out about 6 months ago.  All of the new gen 2 cameras are NOT compatible with the NEST app.  Instead you have to use the new Google Home app which is substantially lacking in features compared to the awesome NEST app.   To be honest your best bet is to return the camera for a refund and buy a used Gen 1 camera from someone on Ebay so that you can stay with the NEST app. I have done this twice and had no issues getting the used camera up and running.

:o. I knew I couldn't get the camera into Nest app, but I should be able to save clips out of the Home app like I can with the other cameras, right?    The 3 older cameras will let me save clips in the Home app, the newest wont.

One would certainly expect that you could save clips just like the NEST app but that isn't what they have done with the Google Home app.  To make matters worse of the clips you CAN save you can no longer send someone a LINK to view the clip like in the NEST app.   What a mess.
