Nest Aware

  1. Seeking other Nest Aware users who have wired camera and fell for the deceptive GOOLE claims the battery camera when wired works with Nest Aware.  Total BS and the Google advisors who respond to these posts quickly lock them and act like a spoiled three year old.   Why are we paying for a great app, "NEST AWARE" only to have some geek decide the Home app is a better platform, are you completely stupid or maybe don't have the product and don't have issues that required the camera to begin with.   STOP BEING SO STUPID.

JT, factory reset worked well and camera is back online.   Still which the decision would be made to show the second gen. (battery) cameras on Nest Aware.   For those of us who have the subscriptions it's 1000 times better and easier to manipulate, share, (on a real computer) vs. have the Home app only on a small phone screen.   This is a total joke from which was a great product.  Yes the I can review Nest Aware on my phone, but still the missing link is beyond frustrating.

Thanks again for your assistance!

@badNEST2

We've had a Google Nest Camera (Battery) since Sept. 2021, plugged in with the optional power cable. We are unhappy that we have to use the Google Home app to access its history, while using the Google Nest app to access the history on our other Google Nest cameras and doorbells. I agree that the Google Home app is inferior to the Google Nest app, including when accessing the history timeline. However, our Google Nest Camera (Battery) does have 24/7 history as part of our Nest Aware Plus subscription. I gather, from other posts in this forum, that when running on battery power, the battery camera does not do well in capturing events, making it not very useful for customers with a Nest Aware (events only) subscription.  And we can't manually edit video clips with the new camera; bummer.

More bad news, I removed my battery nest camera from the home app and now want to reinstall.   What a PIA attempting to reinstall, but seems extremely difficult to find on wifi, I will need to remove my 22 or so connected items to find the camera (hopefully) and reinstall.

Archie,

I am having zero luck in re-establishing the NEST outdoor battery camera to my Home app.

The app has no way of manually adding the device, so when the “program” cannot find the camera, simply put, I’m screwed.

I also noted that since my purchase of the battery camera, Google has conveniently changed the advertising to note the battery camera only works with the Home app.   Interesting enough, I still have the original add, which indicates the camera works with my Nest Aware if the optional power cord is purchased.   Guess what, I have the power chord.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as currently the camera is worse than a useless brick.

@badNEST2

If the trouble you're having in re-connecting your battery camera to Wi-Fi is the infamous "can't connect to assisting device" error (which Google Nest still hasn't addressed), some customers in this forum have succeeded either by temporarily turning off their other Nest devices (just turning them off, not removing them in the app) while connecting the problematic camera, or by temporarily creating a new "home", adding the camera in that home, then removing it from that temporary "home" and adding it to your regular "home". We've been lucky not to have encountered this error, so I can't guarantee that either of these will work.

Hey folks!

I appreciate your assistance Archie and MplsCustomer.

badNEST2, I'm sorry about what you've gone through. Let's dig deeper into this — a few questions:

  1. What's the error message you received when pairing your Nest Cam Battery to your Google Home app?
  2. What's the status light of the camera?
  3. How far is your camera from your WiFi router?
  4. Do you have an iPhone or Android phone?

Give these steps a try:

Restart your camera.

  1. Locate the reset button at the back of the camera.
  2. Press and hold for 5 seconds.
  3. Your camera will restart, and the status light will be steady, solid white.

Try adding your camera again to your Google Home app. In case it doesn't work try to factory reset the camera by following steps in this article.

Let me know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Regards,

JT
