Nest Cam (battery) streaming to Chromecast

SJBaum

Am I correct that the Nest Cam (battery) cannot be viewed on a Chromecast?  Currently I can buy other brand Cameras and have them stream to my Chromecast... seems silly this primary feature isn't available for a Nest Cam.
I saw another post (months old) where a customer was assured this issue was being addressed and the post was closed, was it ever resolved?

When will this feature be available?

Thanks!

I am afraid that there hasn't been any changes like that. You can stream your camera view to a smart display/speaker but not via Chromecast. Not sure if this will become a feature or not as I am not part of the Chromecast forums, but I would hope this becomes a feature. Thank you for your feedback!

Best regards,

Brad.

The only device I am aware of currently, that the cameras will stream live to, is the Google Nest/Home Hub by saying "Hey Google, show me the [camera name]". The Chromecast is still unavailable, and I do not know the timeline if ever that will be implemented. It depends on so many factors including codecs, hardware, OS versions and which generation (version of Chromecast). Maybe the future generations of Chromecast will work, but fo now, I would settle for more functionality in the Google Home app!! Like being able to schedule the camera!!

Thanks for that info BG.

I thought those would be good reasons too until I realized I'm currently able to stream an Arlo cam, or nearly any other off-brand cam, to the Chromecast.  The regular Nest wired cam (which is newer than the Nest Cam) AND the Nest Doorbell (older than the Nest Cam) are BOTH able to stream to the Chromecast, therefor "codecs, hardware, OS versions, and generation (of Chromecast)" obviously isn't really such a problem or they'd be problems for everybody else's cams too.

Hi Brad,

Has there been an update to allow a Nest Cam (battery) to stream to a ChromeCast?  I haven't tried again since my frustrating failure back in December.

Thanks for the help,

-Skyler
