Nest Cam doesn't connect to app

TwoMeterPeter

Hi all,

I recently bought a Nest cam (battery). I was already a bit dissapointed finding out this nest cam doesn't work with the nest app, or my nest protect smoke detectors work with google home app. My main reason for choosing this, pretty expensive, camera was to have it all in one app. But okay, I'll live with it. I can't seem to get it connected to the google home app, since after connecting it to my cable, never will a blue light turn on. It keeps on the white light (blinking intil charged, then just on). I've tried resetting the camera, (yellow light stays on when doing that), I've tried doing it next to my router, I've measured my outlets, they're fine. And at this point it really starts to frustrate the hell out of me. Can anyone give me something I haven't tried yet?

kind regards,

Peter

This is the Google Nest Help topic on the status lights on the battery camera:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9268073?hl=en&sjid=10973320186451965640-NA#zippy=%2Cgoo...

During a factory reset, the status light should be a solid yellow at 12 seconds, while the camera starts the factory reset, and then you should hear a confirmation tone:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9252162?hl=en&sjid=10973320186451965640-NA#zippy=%2Cnes...

Do you have the charging cord plugged in securely in the bottom of the camera, with the cord feeding towards the FRONT of the camera?

If this does not give you any clues, you could try contacting Support, using the link and instructions in this post:

@MplsCustomer

Thanks for replying,

Pushing in the reset button, at some point I get 4 yellow flashes (and beeps), and then a solid yellow light, at that moment I let go of the button, and the yellow light stays on forever. I've also tried holding the button, with the same results, the light stays solid yellow (at least for the almost 10 minutes I held it)

The cord is correctly placed, so unfortunately that's not it.

@TwoMeterPeter

This does not seem right, and has not been our experience with our battery camera, which we've had for almost 23 months now, plugged in and online at all times.

You could try contacting Support, using the link and instructions in the post below, to determine whether you're missing some step that's not apparent here, or whether your new camera is defective:

Hello TwoMeterPeter,

Checking in — did you get a chance to try the steps shared by MplsCustomer? If so, how did it go? Let me know if you need more help.

@Anonymous, we'd like to look more into your case if you could share more info. As well, we'd appreciate it if you could keep your comments kind, and productive to those seeking help. Thank you.

Thanks for the help, @MplsCustomer.

Best,

@EdmondB

Hi Edmond,

Yes, I did try the suggestions shared by MplsCustomer, unfortunately the reset doesn't seem to work. Iget the blinking yellow light followed by the solid yellow light (plus tones). When I then let go of the reset button, it just remains yellow forever until I unplug. If I plug it back in, it goes back to just the white light, never turning blue.

The cord is plugged in correctly, the power outlet has correct power.

Also wrote to support, haven't heard from them.

It's all pretty frustrating for a thing that should really just easily connect.

Hi there,

Thanks for the information. If the LED light is showing yellow on Nest Cam it means it’s not getting enough power. Have you tried resetting the Nest Camera Battery while it is connected to the USB charger?

I look forward to your response.

Regards,
Edmond

@EdmondB

I have an update. Today I reached google support, and after trying several steps, it was concluded that my camera didn't reset, and we're exchanging it for another one. Hopefully that one will work and I can stay away from this forum 🙂

Thanks for all suggestions.

Hey TwoMeterPeter,

Awesome! I'm glad that everything has been sorted out. If you have questions or concerns in the future, feel free to start a new thread, and we'll be happy to help.

Cheers,

Zoe

I was having the same issue.  The steps outlined via the link on reset resolved my issues.  My previous instructions to reset were inaccurate.  I would share with anyone that you do have to hold down the reset button the entire time, and when complete, I had the blue flashing light to connect to wifi.  From there, I followed the instructions via Google Home App.

Not sure if this is an international number but this is the number for home support. From my experiences they won't help they'll just lie constantly and repeatedly but hey its worth a try.

@Anonymous

That does not look like a valid phone number, and Google Nest--unfortunately--does not publish any support phone numbers. Also, there have been two posts recently from customers who called alleged Google Nest Support numbers and were asked to pay for Support. (They had NOT reached Google Nest Support.)

  • Well it is in my country and I've spoken to them numerous times on that number. That number was supplied inside the camera box as the support line for Australia and New Zealand. So whatever dude.. And as stated in the first sentence I'm not sure if its an international number. So you're wrong google does advertise helpline support "albeit complete garbage support". I can guarantee anyone 100% that number is free to call from anywhere in Australia and New Zealand you will contact FREE Google home support. You will have to give your details "if you want you can decline that" and then will be forwarded to the camera team. THAT IS 100% A LEGITIMATE GOOGLE HOME SUPPORT NUMBER FOR AUS/NZ. I just tried calling the number "AGAIN" for the fiftieth time and they answered with "hi welcome to Google home customer care". So yeah whatevs dude. Obviously you're living in a country that has little to no consumer protection laws. Australia has the ACCC the ACCC protects Australian consumers from dodgy companies like Google.
