Nest Cam saying "Empty Battery"

Phil-NC

I have had my Nest Camera (wired) installed on my house for a few years now.  I have it wired with the optional 10' cable.  This morning, I got notifications that the device was offline because it said "Empty Battery."  It is still plugged in. I checked the outlet and it is still getting power.  I unplugged it at the wall and plugged it back in.  Then, I unplugged it at the camera and plugged it back in.  But no luck.

How do I get the camera back online?  Is there anything that can be done to debug it?

Thanks!

Hi there!

Thanks for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Cam (wired) is going offline and you're receiving "Empty battery" notifications. I appreciate all the efforts you've made to resolve this issue. Help is here!

To better assist you with accurate information, I’d like to confirm the following:

  • Have you noticed any physical damage to the cable?
  • Is the camera exposed to extreme temperatures (very hot or very cold)?
  • Did you notice or experience any power outages recently?
  • Would you mind sharing a picture of your camera?

In the meantime, let's check this tip:

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Melany

  • Thank you for your response!  To answer your questions:
  • I looked at the wire and it seems OK.
  • Nothing overly hot or overly cold.  I 'm in North Carolina. So, in the summer we get into the low 100s, and in the winter the high 20s.
  • No power outages recently.

The weird thing is about 18 hours after I posted this, the camera just came back on. I didn't do anything and as far as I can tell nothing changed.  So I'll keep my eye on it, and I'll try to restart if it happens again.  Hopefully it doesn't!
