Nest Cam with Floodlight not showing in Nest App

Just installed my Google Nest Cam with Floodlight (wired). It had me add it to my account by using the Google Home app, but it won't show up on the Nest App with my 7 other Nest Camera, locks, thermostat.

I read that this is now the norm with new Nest products. This sucks. I don't want to have to swap between apps to view my cameras and honestly the Google Home app leaves a LOT to be desired in terms of aesthetics and functionality. It amazes me that with all the resources at Google's disposal and all the stellar apps they've created over the years they'd flounder with this app.

Enough complaining, here is my question: is there any way to get my camera added to the Nest app? Do I need to contact someone at Google or specifically their Nest division?

To Google: stop forcing us onto the Google Home app for video without giving us the option to choose which we'd prefer. From reading other posts in this forum, everyone is frustrated with losing the ease and freedom of the Nest app for all our cameras/Nest products.

At present, there is no way to access the Google Nest cameras and doorbells released in the fall of 2021 from the Google Nest app or from home.nest.com. Google is saying they're going to address this is 2022; see the links below. For now, those of us with old Nest products and new Nest cameras have to use two apps.

Ironically, not wanting two apps is why I've stayed with Nest, since I like the thermostat and smoke detectors. If Google is already going to force us to use two apps to support their products, then I might as well get a Ring doorbell and floodlight since their app and video play controls are way more intuitive.

It is fraudulent to advertise the products using the Nest brand name when it is not compatible with the Nest App.  Way to abuse the loyal customer base.

Hey there, @preilly83,

Thank you for your feedback on this issue, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest Cams in the Nest App or available on https://bit.ly/3HtBgJC web app. I can imagine having to use two different apps at the moment is quite daunting, and could lead to frustration.

However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support. I am more than happy to assist you further with this inquiry if you wish. Please let me know.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Brad:

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, "we (Google) wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays" puts Google's half-baked aspirations against the wishes of Nest's most loyal customers.

I reiterate that it is fraudulent to use the "Nest" product name on a product that is not compatible with Nest.

I would not have wasted my money on these Google Home products had I known of Google's fraudulent sales tactics.

Also:

The Google Home floodlights (not calling them Nest since they are not Nest Compatible) are not very good, controllable lights.

I use the Lutron Caseta App to dim and schedule/control a bunch of lights around my house (inside and outside).

The ability to schedule lights to normally come on at Sunset and go off at Sunrise at a dimmed level with full brightness when motion is detected is a feature I expected to have with these lights…

So you're saying Google Nest team has zero regard for what the customer wants?

You can do the inverse and add them to the nest app, but this is a dev cost thing, yes. Google Home app is not great at all, it's the apple methodology, all Apple or nothing, In this case Google.  If I knew this was the case I would have returned the floodlight and gone with the ring products  I didn't get nest products for the media experience, I got them to monitor(smoke detectors, yale locks) and have visibility via the Hello Doorbell and cameras. I have two homes and use them to manage deliveries, home hvac and access.

What's are your thoughts Brad? Do the folks at Google respond to feedback or just push their adjenda forward?

They bought the intellectual property because it was good, and now I see the underpinnings of a big company ruining a good product.

Respectfuly,

Erik
