Nest Camera Video History

Hi, I have had a Nest Cam outdoor working perfectly with the Nest app for some time now, I expanded my system and purchased a Nest Cam Battery with the weatherproof cable and it is wired up. I have the Nest Aware sub. The Nest app still works ok, and both cameras show up in the Home app. However, the main reason for purchasing the weatherproof cable (at £30?!) was to allow for 24/7 video history (which is switched on, 30 days) on the new Nest Cam battery (wired) - thing is it's only recording events, and I can't see what's happening in-between like I can with the older Nest Cam outdoor. Can anyone please offer any advice on how to get it recording 24/7 please? Also, if I migrate the older camera to the Home app will I still have the same functions or will it be recording events only like the new cam is?

I must say the two-app thing is quite disconcerting, I would have expected Google to put Nest to bed automatically by now and that everything should have been automatically migrated over to Home.

Any advice appreciated!

Kind regards

Is your battery camera in the same Google Nest "home/structure" as your 1st gen camera?

Which Nest Aware subscription do you have? We have a Nest Aware Plus subscription. The 2nd gen Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions (which cover all 1st and 2nd gen cameras and doorbells in the same Google Nest "home/structure") can be accessed here:

https://store.google.com/subscriptions

The 1st gen Nest Aware subscriptions (which cover specific 1st gen cameras and doorbells) can be accessed here (but if you've migrated your Nest Account to a Google Account, you cannot see any 1st gen Nest Aware subscription because you get rerouted to the above page):

https://store.nest/com/account/subscriptions

If you go to your battery camera in the Google Home app, does Settings | Battery show as "Plugged in" with an infinity symbol? (If not, then your camera may not be configured as plugged in.). And if you go to Settings | Video | Video history, does it show "60-day event and 30-day 24/7 video history" (as it should if you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription?

This is what you get with each subscription:

This is Google Nest's price list for Nest Aware subscriptions:

Having to use 2 apps is a nuisance. We've been using both apps since getting a battery camera in Sept. 2021.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

OK, Both cameras are in the same Home. (The older one is in Nest too)

We have Nest Aware, I presume it's 2nd Gen as I remember the ads saying you can have as many cameras as you want.

The battery is showing plugged in and the infinity sign

The video history says 30 day event

In the Nest app I can check video between events on the older camera, 24/7

This reminds me of the Hangouts / Chat / Meet debacle where Google couldn't make up their mind what messaging platform to keep

Thank you

Also, with older camera, we can say "Hey Google show me the front camera on the big telly."

Suffice to say I can't stream the new cam to the TV as it says it's not supported.

It's not good is it? I think they should have put the Nest thing to bed by now and just had everything running through Home with the same protocols.

Cheers

I don't know why you can't stream your 2nd gen camera on your TV.  But there are many Nest app features that are NOT available in the Google Home app.  Google Nest itemizes a few of them:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/13038234#zippy=%2Cnest-app-only-features

Yep, the old cam displays straight away but Hey Google says "sorry this device is not supported" when I ask it to connect to the new cam.

Just checked that link you kindly shared there, I've read most of these pages but things are only sinking in now. I just went to the Home app and clicked on the new cam. Can't find anywhere to save clips (like I can easily do with the old cam)... So a few weeks ago when the police came 'round (no not Sting & Andy Summers etc) they asked to check my front cam for some footage of a pair of common street urchins running away with a neighbour's Flymo. I found the clip on the Nest app, saved it to the Nest account, downloaded it and sent it to the coppers. Am I right in thinking you can't save events with this new cam?

Thank you

OK Just read https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9207572?hl=en#zippy=%2Ccreate-and-download-video-clips

No clip saves unless you have 24/7 vid history which I thought I had, but haven't

Bit of a dipper this I must admit, I could have just bought another Nest Cam outdoor

🙄

@CraigJ1980

I'm not clear what's going on in your case. "Nest Aware" and "Nest Aware Plus" are two separate subscription plans, with "Nest Aware" providing 30-day event video history and "Nest Aware Plus" providing 60-day event video history and 30-day 24/7 video history.

As I said above, if you have a 2nd gen subscription, it is accessible here:

https://store.google.com/subscriptions

I don't know how, if you have a 2nd gen Nest Aware Plus subscription, you could have 30-day event video history on your 2nd gen battery camera and 60-day 24/7 video history on your 1st gen camera. We have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, which covers all of our old 1st gen cameras and doorbells as well as our 2nd gen battery camera, and when we go to our battery camera in the Google Home app and go to Settings | Video | Video history, it shows "60-day event and 30-day 24/7 video history".

One possibility is that you have a 2nd gen "Nest Aware" subscription (which would cover both of your cameras) providing 30-day event video history AND a 1st gen Nest Aware subscription, which would provide 24/7 video history for 5 days, 10 days or 30 days, depending on the subscription. Note that when you migrate from a Nest Account to a Google Account and get a 2nd gen Nest Aware or Nest Aware Plus subscription, Google Nest does NOT cancel any 1st gen Nest Aware subscription you may have, AND you lose online access to that 1st gen subscription (as I noted above).

If you need to contact Support about this:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

Thanks. I'm not sure what's going on either hehe. We only have the one sub for sure, £6 a month.

The Nest account for the old cam says 30 days, but we can view 24/7 video...

As it happens as we've been living with it for a few days now, there's not a lot going on in the back garden, so, not wanting to rock the boat as it were, we'll probably just leave it the way it is, with the 24/7 out front on the old cam and the event based out back with the new one.
