Nest Camera and floodlight/Familiar Faces

In the person library, I accidently pressed No to a familiar face. Now when I try to reidentify that familiar face it doesn't give me the option to do so even when I have video of that familiar face and their face is clear and visible. They only show up as Person.

Hi andrechin4,

I’m sorry to hear that. Let’s check — you can add a name of a person in your familiar face library in the Google Home app.

Here’s how:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Settings > Nest Aware > Familiar face detection.
  3. To add or change the name, tap a face and enter a new name.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Jenelyn

The face of the person I want to add no longer shows up in the face detection part, they just show up as person whenever they enter a zone but their face isn’t added to the library.

Hi folks,

@andrechin4, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, do you have home members under your home structure? Do you have an active subscription? If you have more than one Nest camera, you’ll need to turn familiar face detection on for each camera individually.

Give these steps a try:

  • Position your camera so it can see faces easily. Familiar face detection works best when the subject is directly approaching the camera.
    • Place your camera roughly 6-8ft (183-244cm) above ground and place your doorbell about 4ft (122cm) above ground.
    • Place the camera where people would naturally walk towards it, such as facing a path or down a driveway.
    • For best results, the camera should be placed within 10ft of where people will walk towards it.
  • Check the lighting around your camera. Check your camera’s view at different times during the day to make sure that there’s no glare from the sun or other light sources.
  • Review your familiar faces library on a regular basis during the first few weeks, especially after you add a new person. Promptly fix any face recognition mistakes.

I appreciate your response, Jenelyn.

Regards,

Emerson
