I recently purchased and installed a three pack of Nest Cams primarily for monitoring our cats when we're out. Installation was a breeze and had zero issues. All of the cameras are monitoring smallish rooms in a small apartment, and all are about 7 feet above the floor. Now that they're installed, the wake up sensitivity is overwhelmingly disappointing.
The Cams will randomly alert to when the cats are moving around. For example, I'll get an alert that the Cam in the kitchen sees an animal. Great. I check the alert, and see that he's munching on some food. That's good too. However, he had to move across the fields of view of two other cameras (bedroom -> living room -> kitchen) that didn't trigger, not to mention enter the 4-5 feet of space in the field of view of the kitchen camera before getting to the food bowl. Another example is that I'll get an alert in the living room, only to see the one of the cats are grooming themselves, but with 5-6 hours of zero activity before that (the cat had to get to the place that they're grooming themselves somehow...).
I've tried creating zones for each camera, but that doesn't help, they still randomly trigger. I've increased the sensitivity to the max for all cameras, but again, no difference. I turned on the feature to trigger on the detection of any motion, figuring maybe the camera just didn't realize it's seeing an animal, but again, no difference. They trigger the moment they see a person, but randomly for our animals.
This is especially disappointing since this $350 pack of Nest Cams are replacing a pair of $30 Wyze cams I grabbed from amazon a few years ago that triggered on every bit of motion and required no subscription... Luckily I bought the Nest Cams from Costco so returning will be a breeze, but hoping to get some insight here before I give up on them.

We've had a battery camera since Sept. 2021, plugged in with the optional power cable. When plugged in, it performs well at detecting events. (And with a Nest Aware Plus subscription providing 24/7 recording, we can go back to find something not flagged as an event.) But if we unplug it to test it, it does not wake up from "Idle" mode to detect and record us walking right up to the camera.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was worried that plugging it in might be the answer. Unfortunately the cameras only came with a single charging cable about 3 feet long. I'd have to spend another $100+ on getting the longer outdoor charging cables or two more indoor cables with USB extensions... defeating the advantage of battery powered cameras 😐

Hello, I'm a long time Nest camera user. Sadly, Google does not provide a way to adjust motion sensitivity in the App like a lot of other camera conpanies do. I have ask for that for well over 3 years from Google and nothing has happened. I think returning them is your best bet. Wyze might be a better fit for your application. Also check out TPLINK and EUFY cameras as well.

I've been a fan of tp-link's networking equipment for a long time. I'll take a look at their cameras. Thanks!

google provides very few details about these products which often leaves us customers frustrated. As best I can tell any of the google cameras that have (Battery) in their name are really designed to run off the battery. When you plug them into power all that really happens is that the battery just does a trickle-charge. But the camera still runs off the battery. I find that the cameras from google that say "Wired" are much better in their design and responsiveness to motion awareness .

The battery doorbell and the battery camera function differently.
When the battery DOORBELL is wired, its battery is trickle-charged and the camera continues to run off of battery power.
When the battery CAMERA is plugged in, it runs directly off of household current.

Definitely check out the Eufy line. They are a relatively unheard of brand but I have a few and I like them. If you have the need for a camera outdoors by there is no power they make a few cameras that have a solar cell built on top that keep the camera charged all the time.
