Nest Doorbell Alerting for events outside zone

rocstat

I have the Nest Doorbell and have set up an activity zone to avoid detection of events on the road and pavement outside my house.

Unfortunately I still receive regular alerts for events which do not enter the zone.  I have tried making the zone smaller so no part of it is even near to the road or pavement but still get alerts.  I don't get alerts for every car or pedestrian that goes past however I do get multiple notifications per day

I have the same problem.  The Nest Doorbell still provides notification of people walking on the sidewalk who are outside of the zone area.

Zones can be tricky. They can be inclusive or exclusive.  In other words, produce an event if something happens in the zone.  OR produce an event if something happens anywhere except the zone.  I am sure you have already checked, but just in case - check to see what events are configured in the Zone and what events are configured "Outside of zone".  Hopefully it is that simple!

I definitely have all notifications switched off for outside of zone I'm afraid.  I wish it was that simple but thanks for the suggestion.

Hmm.  Strange.  I just setup a zone earlier this week for a Nest Doorbell (Battery) and it is working as expected - though it did take some learning and tweaking. It is an exclusion zone - no Seen Events set in the zone and the events I want outside of the zone.

If you have the time and haven't done so, clear your zone(s) altogether and enable Seen Events only for People (definitely have Motion off).  Walk in your front yard, in the driveway or on the sidewalk (where ever the doorbell views). Make sure events and notifications work with no zones.  Then create a small inclusion zone, perhaps along a porch column or a tree trunk.  Set it so that outside of the zone does not event.  Make sure to set inside the zone to event for People.  Walk around outside of the zone.  Does it event?  Walk in the zone. Does it event?

If an exclusion zone (event everywhere except the zone) is a possibility test with that to see if it works.

For testing purposes, only use People then add others back in later.  Long term, depending on what the doorbell camera can "see", it is probably best not to use Motion especially if the doorbell can see a community sidewalk, a flag, swaying branches, etc. Don't use Vehicles if it can see a public street.

Hopefully through some testing and process of elimination you can narrow down the problem.

Good luck!

Recently setup my Nest doorbell (battery) and am running into the same issue. Kinda making me go bonkers because the notification says explicitly that the activity is of an event outside my zones (which I have turned notifications off for).

It is implied in the response, but just in case... You probably want to turn off notifications AND events for outside of the zone.
