Nest Doorbell Camera Stops when Doorbell rung

The Nest Doorbell does not show a person when they ring the doorbell. This has been an on-going issue for years. I have seen other people discuss this but there is no clear solution. This makes the Nest Doorbell as useful as a real doorbell.

Your post says you have a 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell, but your subscription seems to be referring to the problem in 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbells where, if the internal battery fails, the doorbell goes offline for a minute whenever the doorbell button is pressed. That issue is tracked in this now-locked thread with over 1,000 replies:

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Nest-Hello-Doorbell-cuts-out-when-butto...

That has happened to all 3 of our Nest Hello Doorbells. The simplest workaround is to turn off the "Indoor chime" option (in which case the doorbell and its camera no longer go offline when the doorbell button is pressed), and rely instead on "Visitor announcements" (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451) on your Nest Hubs and Nest Minis and Nest speakers.  That's what we've done for about a year.

For many (most?) customers, Google Nest has said it "cannot" replace Nest Hellos with this defect if they are past the 1-year warranty.

Some customers have endeavored to pry open their doorbell and replace the battery:

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nest+Hello+Battery+Replacement/131729

If this is happening with your 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell, it would be the first case I've seen reported in this forum.

Is your issue something else?

Yes, thank you. I have ordered a battery and will be attempting to replace it. I will update when I have completed my work.
