Nest Doorbell Wired without existing doorbell

abungay

Hi there,

I'm looking to purchase a Nest Doorbell wired. I've picked the wired because I live in the arctic and get temperatures far below the Battery version's operating temperatures. But I don't have a doorbell currently so will need to purchase a plug in transformer. I'm just wondering if this will still work the way it's supposed to if I don't have an existing doorbell chime, and where I can set the doorbell to chime. I have two hubs and speakers in the house will the doorbell chime on one of those?

Thanks!

Google Nest sells an adapter for its doorbells (https://store.google.com/us/product/ninety7_indoor_power_adapter_nest_hello?hl=en-US). Note that it's designed to be plugged in indoors so you'll need to drill a hole into your door frame to run the wire through.

We live in Minnesota USA and bought the older Google Nest Hello Doorbell and powered with with the OhmKat Power Adapter for the Nest Hello (https://www.ohmkat.com/products/ohmkat-video-doorbell-power-supply-compatible-with-nest-hello-no-exi...), but that adapter works only with the Nest Hello.

Your doorbell can send visitor announcements to all your Nest Hubs and Nest speakers if you turn on "Visitor announcements" for the doorbell.

Our Nest Hello doorbells all work fine in Minnesota winters with temperatures down to around -20 Fahrenheit. I don't know about Arctic temperatures and I don't know anything about the durability of the new doorbell.

By the way, the battery doorbell always runs off the battery even when wired, and cannot charge the battery at temperatures below freezing (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/11830989?hl=en).

Hi there,

Thank you for your patience, and sorry to hear that you're experiencing this. I know that keeping your Nest devices charged is very important, and I would love to help you out. When it comes to keeping your Nest Doorbell (battery) or Nest Cam (battery) up and running, here are some articles and troubleshooting guides for the best charging practices:

  • This is a great article on general charging times for your devices.
  • This helpful article tells you how to save the battery with your doorbell or camera.
  • And this last article, will go over charging expectations when you may live in a cooler/colder environment which will address charging temperatures, etc.

I hope those articles help shed some light on charging and maintaining battery levels of your Nest doorbell or camera. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

Brad
