Nest Doorbell Wired

I've had my Nest Hello Wired Doorbell since 2018. It stopped working last month (just after the warranty expired) along with a lot of other peoples, from what I'm reading. I'm guessing it's the cold weather issue.

I still get the slow blinking blue light then it goes off for a minute or so before the next slow blink.

I see a lot of posts about this online but haven't seen a good step-by-step method to fix it.

I deleted it from my Google account, did a factory reset and tried to re-add it. That didn't work.

Now I disconnected it and brought it in the house. I'm charging it with the USB port as I write this.

Will it be able to be charged this way? If so, how long should it take to charge?

When it's done, I plan on trying a factory reset again and will try to re-add it.

If this does not work, am I out of options? Or am I missing something?

Also, has a date been announced for the next generation wired doorbell?

I don't want to by the same model if the new model is being released soon.

TIA

The failures of Google Nest Hello Doorbells being reported in this forum are NOT due to cold weather, but rather are due to failure of the small internal battery, although some customers report that the failure can be worse in colder weather. (The cold weather issue seems to be occurring mostly with the new "Google Nest Doorbell (Battery)".) The longest thread on the Nest Hello failure issue is here: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Nest-Hello-Doorbell-cuts-out-when-butto....

The internal battery apparently comes into play only when the doorbell is pressed, and provides power to trigger your chime without interrupting the ongoing function of the camera. Some customers work around it by turning off their "Indoor Chime" and relying instead on "Visitor notifications" going to their Nest Hub or Nest Mini. Other customers (like you) have reported that their Nest Hellos just fail after a couple of years, and the failure is not just when the doorbell is pressed.

It seems that in neither case is Google Nest providing replacements or even discounts to customers who are beyond the warranty period. Some customers in the thread above have ordered their own internal battery replacement and pried open the doorbell to replace the battery, using the iFixit link in the thread above.

I don't know whether your charging it through the USB port will help. It might, especially if you are also able to turn off your internal chime.

We have 3 Nest Hellos of various ages and have not yet encountered failure (although our first one failed a couple of years ago but was replaced because it was within the warranty period).

Good luck; I hope you can get yours working until Google Nest finally releases a new wired doorbell.

Thanks for the reply.

Well, you're right about not being related to the cold. It's been in the warm house on a USB charge for 24 hours. Same slow blink blue light. Unable to do a factory reset.

Tried to add it again and still get NC021 (6007).

Any idea when the new model is being released?

I'm just another Google Nest customer. I haven't seen anything since Google Nest VP's post of Sept. 29, 2021, which said: "We are excited to share that we will be launching a 2nd generation of Nest Doorbell (wired) in 2022."
