Nest Doorbell doesn't chime on iPhone

jacm86

Hi there, we used to have an Amazon Ring, and whenever we were out of the house it would have a chime on our phone to let us know that someone had rung the doorbell (e.g. when a parcel was being delivered).  We could then respond.

We moved to the Nest Doorbell, expecting the same behaviour (and who wouldn't tbh, it's a pretty standard use case).  But now all we get is a popup notification (not even a sound).

How can we make our iphone chime whenever someone rings our doorbell (particularly when we are out of the house).  And if it isn't a current feature, what do we have to do to get it on the feature roadmap?  Thanks.

I fully agree with you. This is the most standard usecase I would expect. A notification isn’t enough, we need to have the chime sound. Dear Google Nest Development team, could you please us know when this feature will come?

The notification that gets generated does actually come with a sound for me, as long as sound is on on your iPhone obviously. But the sound is the regular “reminder” sound.  It would be so much better if the chime sound could be used for this, so you know directly someone has rung the doorbell without even picking your phone….

Hi Brad,

Thanks so much for your quick reply. With forwarding you mean forwarding this to the Nest software development team? If so, it would be great to get an update if and when this feature will become available 🙂 additionally, is there some feature release portal where new features are announced. If so, happy to receive the url.

Thanks,

Gerrit

Hi Brad, yes many thanks!  Just to echo Gerrit's question, does this mean that you are going to share with the Nest Dev team?  And how often do you get a response/action?

In case it is helpful, my wife is so passionate about this that she actually wants me to move back to Amazon (they do have a really nice chime sound that you can't miss)...  Please help as I am not really keen to move back!  I am that there must be other customers who feel the same way...

You could assist by informing us if and when Google plans to add this new feature into the software. It’s kind of an inferior product without this feature…

Kind regards,

Gerrit

Thanks Brad - yes have you had any response?  And when do you think you will get one?

@jacm86

The new 2021 Cams that were released do not have an audible chime unless you have a speaker or display set up. You can of course, still set it up with a Nest Cime if you have one already, but the new ones only send a notification if they do not have a Speaker or Display set up to chime off of.

Brad.

Yes we know, that’s why we bring this feature as an enhance request to the google team. Please let us know if and when google will bring this feature the the software.

Thanks Brad - I get that they don't have a chime but this is the problem!!  But if you are away and want to get notified that some is at your door (on your phone) a notification really isn't enough.  Amazon Ring does this - am wondering why not google home??

I thought that we had requested this as a feature?  Or is this the response from the dev team (i.e. no they are not entertaining this?)

It sounds like a great idea to me personally, and all requests are sent in. I cannot give you any for of confirmation or ETA on this feature request.

So, how do we know that we as big Google product buyers, are taken seriously when it comes to bringing great suggestions for improving your products. It would be great if this community platform would be monitored / and replied to by product development. Could you at least tell us this feature is on the roadmap? I get it that you can’t provide an ETA at the moment….

Right now anything we send in as enhancement is kind of a black box for us. We don’t have a clue if google does anything with it….

I am only a Moderator/Community Specialist, so I have no insight into product development or anything like that. These Community Forums are for all Community Members to discuss and seek assistance from other Community Members. We come in and help by keeping the forums clean, and organized and answer some questions here and there.

Now of course, we collect feedback and move that forward. This is a public place to share your feedback, so it's all available. I wish I had an idea if and or when but I am not privy to that information. You can leave your feedback directly here, or on the apps which have an option to send in direct feedback. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

Brad.

Yep, I understand it all, and I don’t blame you for it, but I would expect from a company like Google that it actually not only listens to its customers (by receiving feedback), but also communicates back to its customers to tell them not only they like their ideas but that they actually consider these ideas as product enhancements. It’s a quite vital feature missing here, and I’m not alone in saying this…

If I’d go to a car dealer, buy a car, and it turns out that the horn doesn’t work properly and I tell them about it, would you like it if they say “yea, thanks, great idea, we’ll send it through, but no clue it’s gonna be solved, since I don’t have access to that information”. Not really a satisfactory / customer friendly buying experience I must say…

Thank you for sharing your feedback! I mean it. This is definitely still a place to share it, and me and other Community Specialists will do our best to get it sent forward.

Best regards,

Brad.

Why not create an idea lab where community members can bring in enhancement request, and to have some sort of voting system, so these ideas can be rated by relevance / importance / etc. So, you will end up having let’s say a top 10 of enhancement requests. Prod dev can look at this, and implement the best ideas, so they actually show they listen to their customers.

100% agree Gerritanne.  Also, if things get closed out quickly in this forum how do you ever get a critical mass of feedback...  For example, this issue looks like it has been looked into many times with the same non-action.

Brad, it's not your fault (I get your role in this) but can you pls send to Google how unsatisfactory this solution is for providing feedback on product requests (as opposed to solving problems for existing products)...
