Nest Flood Light Camera

I believe there are a few things that need to be rectified. First and most important, custom clips. The Nest App and website allow the creation of custom clips. Example of useful situation: someone enters the property and goes off frame but then back in a minute or so later. Currently what would be 2 events of which you can make a clip of them coming in frame and then out but no concept of passing time (one night imagine a legal reason to not have missing footage). Another more fun use, my dog is a racing menace, some times he does not set off the motion in frame but i would love to get a video of him doing something silly. Currently, i cannot unless he sets off the camera. Nest App allows it but the Google home app does not.

Second suggestion, local storage. Because these devices are WiFi connected, there are times when the WiFi is out but the power is on. It would be useful to include local storage.

Third suggestion is based on the Nest Doorbell camera but should be in more products, a battery backup. Our Nest Doorbell camera has both battery backup and local storage, i have some great time lapse video of a snow storm in a power outage because of this feature.

I wanted to stick to the positive applications but there are situations that have been helpful with the Nest app and cameras i have that the best Nest Cam with flood light cannot do based on the Google home app and the lack of battery backup and local storage. I would argue i cannot consider it a security camera because of it, whereas other products are security devices.

I hope that immediately the development team will include custom clips in the Google home app

I have been experiencing the same frustrations with wanting to make custom clips in the same way that we have been able to with previous nest cameras through the nest app. This is a huge feature regression and has been discussed in many threads over the last year at least, but they keep closing and locking the discussion threads without any solution. They keep suggesting we use the feedback option in the home app, but sadly no responses ever come from that. Your suggestions are all well thought out and practical features in this line, you aren't alone. Hopefully some of them end up being implemented in future updates.

All the best,

Chris

Hey there,

Thank you for sharing this feature request with us. We’re always looking for ways to improve, and appreciate your feedback. You can send it at any time using your devices by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," or by following the steps found here. We'll keep the thread open for 24 hours for follow-up questions and concerns.

Best regards,
Brad

Or, you could keep it open and allow others to contribute their own experiences in one thread, until an actual resolution is found. Otherwise you will continue the chaos of multiple threads for the same subject, all locked and closed without being resolved. You have dozens, sometimes hundreds, of duplicate threads in this community. I get that is the policy, but it is a counterproductive and inefficient policy. And yes, I submitted this suggestion via the feedback submission as well. This isn't on you specifically as a community specialist, more on the faulty system as a whole.

@P4ND4M0

I can understand that closing the thread early removes the option for others to share their experience, but I am afraid that isn't how these requests work in the forums. I appreciate the feedback, though. We'll still be locking the thread after 24 hours, as this is a feature request thread.

Best regards,

Brad

To be fair, it is a feature regression. It was intentionally removed from current generation devices and was available with previous generations through the Nest app. This is a missing feature, not a feature request. I understand how the system works, thank you for explaining again. It is flawed and counterproductive. Again, not a reflection on you specifically as you are just doing your job. Thanks for the prompt replies.
