Nest Hello Battery won’t connect to assisting device

Hello.
i just upgraded my Wifi, and went to connect my old nest hello wired but it wouldn’t connect to an assisting nest product, which would be my thermostat. After trying a bunch of times, I assumed the doorbell was the issue as I tried playing around with the internet settings but nothing worked. So I went out and bought a new nest doorbell battery. The same thing is happening with the Google home app and the new doorbell. I can’t get past the step “connecting to assisting nest product “ or something like that. The error code I was getting was NC016 with the old doorbell and the home app doesn’t give an error code.

For reference, all my other nest products, including the thermostat, are connected to my Wifi just fine. I am at a loss now, and nothing seems to help.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hey, sorry to hear you’re having problems. The way I got the doorbell to work was actually creating a new home. When you create a new home and connect the doorbell first, it passes the step on connecting to an assisting device (which is quite obviously totally unnecessary in the first place). Then I removed my old devices and deleted my old home. It works now. But now my thermostat won’t connect (UGGGHHH). Hope that helps!

Google Nest should really provide some documentation on how an "assisting device" works and how to bypass it if necessary. In the past, you configured the WiFi connection for a new Google Nest camera or doorbell manually. Now it happens when the new camera or doorbell somehow gets the WiFi information from an "assisting device". But if this doesn't work for some unknown reason, the customer is stuck.

I am having the same problem.  New battery nest camera but when trying to setup in google home it cant connect to another nest product (its asking me to press button on and move close to my nest protect). But it wont connect. Tried many many times, everything is on the same wifi etc.  But it doesn't work!
