Nest Hello Wired Doorbell 2nd Gen works without chime connector

After months of trying to figure out how to make my 2nd Gen Nest Wired Doorbell chime work with the chime connector, I took the connector off completely and everything works fine (so far). No buzzing or anything. What is the point of the chime connector?

The "chime puck" is supposed to provide continuous power to the doorbell's camera without tripping your indoor chime. I don't know why your doorbell's camera is working without the "chime puck"; other customers have reported the same thing in an effort to get their "chime pucks" to work. Some customers have reported defective "chime pucks" and some of them have been able to get them replaced and report success with the replacements.

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. I know it's working now but we don't know how long it will last while the chime connector is not connected. The Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) has higher power requirements than most doorbells. You need a transformer that is rated for 16-24 V AC, 10-40 VA to provide enough power to your Nest Doorbell. If you've already installed your Nest Doorbell and you see a blinking yellow light on the front, your Nest Doorbell isn't receiving enough power. Hit this link for more information.

The doorbell a week later continues to operate normally without the chime connector installed. Why is the chime connector necessary if the system works without it? Also I chatted with Google virtual tech support and they told me they do not send out replacement chime connectors which is contrary to the comments on this forum. Not sure why different customers are getting different information. The person I chatted with wanted me to uninstall all the hardware and return it to my retailer which would leave me without a doorbell. Not sure how that makes any sense when the system is working without the chime connector.

GeorgeCVA, I’m sorry for the confusion here. This is definitely not the experience we want you to have. The chime connector allows the chime's wires to deliver constant power to the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) and Nest Doorbell (wired) and protects your chime from damage. In addition, without the chime connector, you might experience chime buzzing or unexpected chimes. Though your indoor chime may still work without the chime connector, we suggest installing it to avoid damages to your chime box.
