After getting very upset with my husband, thinking he forgot to take the protective plastic off, I am now realizing that it is in fact the unit and I am in the same situation as many in this forum. I have filled out the necessary form and really hope that Google does the right thing when this is clearly a known defect in the product.

This has happened to two of our three Google Nest Hello Doorbells; we resorted to purchasing silicone "skins" on Amazon to cover the peeling shards. The internal battery has also failed on all three of our Nest Hellos, so we turned off the "Indoor chime" option (since doing so prevents the doorbell from going offline whenever the doorbell button is pressed), and we rely instead on "Visitor announcements" on our Nest Hubs. We live with the defects because the doorbells otherwise continue to work.
