Nest Mini 2nd Gen + Battery doorbell

I can’t get my doorbell chime to play on the nest speaker.  I have the visitor announcement turned on and it won’t allow me to turn the chime feature on.

The "Indoor chime" option is intended to enable ringing of an indoor doorbell chime, and is disabled if your battery doorbell is not wired to an indoor doorbell chime.

Is "Do not disturb" turned on for your Nest speaker? If so, you need to turn it off.  Are your speaker and doorbell in the same Google Nest "home/structure"?

Unfortunately we do not have an indoor hardwired chime so I purchase the nest as a substitute so we can hear when someone is at the door.

The nest is not in Do not disturb mode.

If your Nest Mini is in the same Google Nest "home/structure" and you are NOT getting visitor announcements, you could try contacting Support using the link and instructions in the post below:

Hello everyone,

@Sweisz30, thanks for reaching out to the Community. I’m sorry to hear that you're having issues with the visitor announcements on the Nest devices. Have you seen MplsCustomer’s suggestion above? If yes, how was it?

If you haven’t done so already, please try the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Make sure your doorbell is in the same home as your speaker or display. If it’s not, you won’t get visitor announcements.
  2. Restart the Nest Mini (2nd Gen). Unplug the power cord from your speaker for one minute, then plug the power cord back in.
  3. Wait one to two minutes for it to fully power on.
  4. Turn Do Not Disturb on, then off. You can use these voice commands. Start with "Ok Google" or "Hey Google," then “Turn on Do not disturb” to enable it. To disable Do not disturb, say "Ok Google" or "Hey Google," then “Turn off Do not disturb.”
  5. Press the doorbell and check if the issue is fixed.
  6. If it still doesn’t work, check for any available iOS updates on the mobile device and install them if there’s one.
  7. Uninstall the Google Home app.
  8. Restart the iOS device.
  9. Reinstall the Home app, then test again.

Let me know how it goes.

Here’s a handy guide to learn more about how to get doorbell visitor announcements on a speaker or display.

Thanks for chiming in, MplsCustomer.

Best,
