Nest Wired Gen 1 Doorbells Frozen in Google Home App and Functioning Perfectly in Nest App

My two Nest Wired Doorbell Gen 1 cameras freeze immediately upon opening the Google Home app. This started happening over the past couple months. Live viewing simultaneous cameras functions perfectly in the Nest app. The one Google Nest Cam Battery continues working flawlessly in the Google Home app.

@noahl

We have 1st gen cameras and doorbells, and a couple of 2nd gen cameras, and are not seeing this.

Does this also happen on the home.google.com website?

You could try deleting and reinstalling the Google Home app. You don't lose any settings; you just log back on using your same username and password.

Thank you for the advice. I just deleted and reinstalled both the Google Home and Nest apps. Problem still persists. The Nest Doorbell Gen 1 Wired cameras are unable to be viewed live on the home.google.com website.

@noahl

This seems quite odd.

Do your two 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbells even appear in the Google Home app, under Cameras and under Devices? Do they even appear on the home.google.com website?

Are you accessing the same exact Google Nest "home/structure" name in the Google Nest app, the Google Home app, the home.nest.com website, and the home.google.com website, using the same Google (gmail) Account? (The name of the Google Nest "home/structure" appears on the screens for all 4. If you have more than one Google Nest "home/structure", there's a drop-down for you to select which "home/structure" you want to access.)

Yes they appear everywhere and under one common home and email. If I go into the Cameras section on the Google app you see a live view of whatever is happening outside in that moment on all cameras. However, let’s say in that moment a car was passing by. The Google Nest Cam battery (which I have wired) continues viewing everything live properly and the car passes by, it continues streaming. The two Google hello doorbell Gen 1 wired cameras would see the car passing outside as well and the car might move a couple frames, but then the car is frozen in time, as a still image. So the two doorbells continue to see only a still of the moment I opened the Cameras section in the app, and the Google Cam Battery continues streaming. The cameras in question function with live viewing properly in the Nest app still. Also, event history works in the Google home app for all cameras. As for Google.home.com the it says the nest hello doorbells are “unavailable to live view in iOS”. Thanks.

The home.google.com website is not designed to be accessed from a browser on a phone.  (It works on our iPad, however,)  When we try accessing it from an iPhone we also get a message saying "This camera does not support live streaming on iOS" for our 1st gen cameras and doorbells, and the 2nd gen cameras say they're "Idle" when they're not.

Per this Help topic, "You can open Google Home for web on a computer or mobile device."  Specifically, you need a browser that supports WebRTC and Media Source Extensions (MSE)"

I don't know why your 1st gen Nest Hello Doorbells freeze when viewed in the Google Home app, unless you are using the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app, and it's a glitch in that beta version.

Hello everyone,

@noahl, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. Try restarting it. In case you're still getting the same issue, you may reset it to the factory default.

To learn more about reset and restart, you may visit our public article about “Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell”.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.
