I have had two replacements for the wireless doorbell because the button on the back of the doorbell that secures the doorbell in place, depresses, and fails to come back out. This has now happened a third time and is now out of warranty and Google will not replace. The design for the mounting/locking mechanism is flawed and it will continue to happen as dust or any other debris may get into the release port on top and/or in space around the release button on the back.
However, today, I used WD-40 Specialist electrical contact cleaner on the button on the back as well as in the locking release on the top. After liberal application of the contact cleaner, I use the release tool to continually to get the cleaner to get into the mechanism and the button became operable again.
I've used this WD40 electrical contact cleaner on other sensitive products like the Nintendo Switch Controllers to fix controller drift on the joysticks. If you are out of warranty on your wireless doorbell, definitely try this WD40 product to resolve.

Thank you for posting your solution, and I will try this as soon as I get home this evening.
I am in the same situation - Google has replaced the doorbell in the past, but I am now out of warranty and they will not help even though it is their design/manufacturing defect.
Thanks again for sharing and I'll keep you posted on if this works for me

Sounds good! Depending how stuck it is, it may take a few applications and continuously pressing the release with the release tool or small flat heat screw driver or similar. I also have putting a small piece of electrical tape to cover the release hole to reduce the amount of dust that may enter from that area and prolonging the amount of time before the issue inevitably happens again.

Only if possible, that it be shared how the design of the doorbell leads to doorbells not being able to be secured back to its base. Debris finds its way into the release port as well as the button that secures the device to the base.

Thank you @hinch12 !!! The WD40 contact cleaner allowed the port to get cleaned and I was able to successfully mount the doorbell again! This is the only solution I've come across and I really appreciate you sharing your findings!
I also took your advice of putting a small piece of painter's tape along the top of the port to hopefully lessen the debris that gets in there. Thank you so much!

Great to hear @bnels97 ! I was really glad it worked for me and was excited to share that solution knowing how many others were experiencing the same frustration with that aspect of the doorbell.
