Nest cam battery, cant view while plugged in

Have a few outdoor cams (battery).  Id like to run power to them to avoid having to take them down to charge.  I've noticed however i am unable to view live while they are charging and same when they are fully charged.. but still plugged in.   Connection is strong.  Should I be able to use the cameras with them plugged in?

We have had one of the new Google Nest Battery Cameras since Sept. 2021, always plugged in with the optional 10-meter power cable.  We also have a Nest Aware Plus subscription.  Our camera always shows as "Live" in the Google Home app, it records 24/7, and the battery stays at 100%.  If we unplug it, it shows as "Idle". I don't know whether the power adapter that comes with the charging cord is different from the power adapter that comes with the optional power cables, or whether that would explain the behavior you are seeing, or whether there's something else going on.  Maybe the behavior you are seeing is because your cameras aren't "mounted" to the magnetic mount when you're charging them.  The new Google Nest cameras released in the fall of 2021 have a new "Camera mount" setting under "Device information" in settings.  You could try remounting one of the cameras and running an extension cord out to it temporarily to see whether you can view it live when its plugged in.

The reason you can't view while they're dismounted for charging is the cameras have a sensor that only activates viewing when they're connected to the magnet mount. I haven't tested it, but you may be able to trick them by placing a strong magnet on the back while they're charging. I don't know if the mount sensor is just magnetically activated or if there's also an RFID chip or something they detect while mounted.
