Nest cam phone notifications triggering

GrahamMills
Community Member

Hi

I have several next cam outdoor cameras.

The issue I have is that I receive some notifications for events that are outside a zone.
I have detection for some events outside a zone but notifications as turned off.

This give me quite a lot of notification noise. For example I only want to know if someone was detected in the zone and not outside it.

This doesn't happen all the time but enough to become bothersome and all the false positives lead us to ignore genuine events.

Also do we know when downloading of video will be available other than just events? This is possible on the old cameras/nest app. If there is no event I can't download the clip. Annoying as i've had police requests before clips.

Cheers

Graham

@GrahamMills

We have both old and new Google Nest cameras, and we never get notifications for events that are outside of a zone, so I'm curious about exactly what you're encountering.

Is the unwanted notification you're receiving labeled as having occurred in your "Outside of zone" activity zone, even though you have notifications turned off for that zone? If that's what's happening, that would seem really strange.

Or is the unwanted notification you're receiving for an event that occurred in your "Outside of zone" activity zone, but is being labeled as having occurred in your "Front Yard" activity zone (as an example)? If this is what's happening, perhaps some of the content in this Google Nest Help topic might be useful to you: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9207697

When we set up zones for our front yard camera, we had to be careful in laying out our activity zones so that part of a person walking on the sidewalk didn't inadvertently trigger a notification for another zone, or a person walking in the "Out of zone" activity zone on the sidewalk across the street didn't inadvertently trigger an alert in the "Street" activity zone when part of the person was also in the "Street" activity zone.

I would like to modify my earlier post. I turned on People notifications for one zone on our plugged-in battery camera recently, and am noticing that if an event occurs in two zones (such as a person walking through two zones), the notification will be reported for the first zone in which the event occurred, even though notifications are turned OFF for that zone, and will NOT be reported for the second zone in which the event occurred, even though notifications are turned ON for that zone.

Hi, Thanks for the help.

It seem to be the odd false positivise, and doesn't happen all the time.
Almost like it doesn't account for the detection zone when processing.
I will keep testing and see if I can narrow down the issue.
