Nest camera and doorbell battery drains when no internet

bob21358

I have several nest battery cameras and battery doorbell. All work fine and I can expect 4 to 6 weeks battery life from the devices.

Recently we have had storms and the physical internet connection to my house has been damaged and not working. It has taken 2 days to repair. During this time the wifi is "working" but there is no internet.  Both times this has happened the battery has been completely drained on all my cameras and doorbell, taking about 5 hours to recharge.

However I am surprised that the batteries have completely drained while there has been no internet.

I have seen a couple of similar posts related to no internet draining or depleting the battery, but there was no resolution.

And it is NOT temperature related. Camera and doorbell are about 18 months old, and work perfectly fine except for this issue.

Hope someone can help.

There are no errors in the app or the cameras.

The cameras are all working fine.

The issue is when the cameras are connected to your wifi router, but the wifi router does not have internet access the cameras (and doorbell) batteries drain very quickly.

Once the internet is restored, and you recharge the batteries everything works fine.

My strong suggestion is that if you lose your internet access (in my case a tree went through the fibre optic cable) then turn off your wifi routers, otherwise you will need to spend the five hours recharging your camera.
