I can't seem to get my Google nest (battery) cameras to show in Google nest.  I can link the home and I have subscribed to nest aware, but the cameras will not show up.  What am I doing wrong?

@Nasty62

You aren't doing anything wrong.

Google Nest's 2nd gen cameras and doorbells released starting in Sept. 2021 work ONLY in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app. We discovered this to our surprise in Sept. 2021 when we bought a battery camera.

A "Nest Aware" or "Nest Aware Plus" subscription applies to ALL cameras and doorbells in the same Google Nest "home/structure". For 2nd gen cameras and doorbells, the history provided by the subscription is viewed in the Google Home app. For 1st gen cameras and doorbells, event video history can be viewed in the Google Home app, but full history is viewed in the Google Nest app.

Hi Nasty62,

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulties getting your Nest Camera (Battery) to show up in the Google Nest app. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Double-check the camera setup process to ensure that the cameras are properly installed and connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Make sure that the Nest app has the necessary permissions to access your camera. On your mobile device, go to the device settings, find the Nest app, and ensure that camera permissions are enabled.
  3. In the Nest app, go to the device settings or device management section and select "Sync devices" or a similar option. This action will refresh the app's connection with your camera and attempt to detect and display it.
  4. Verify that your camera and the device running the Nest app are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. A stable and reliable Wi-Fi connection is necessary for the camera to communicate with the app.
  5. Make sure that both the Nest app and your camera's firmware are up to date. Outdated software versions can sometimes cause compatibility issues. Check for updates in the respective app stores or within the app's settings.

I hope these steps help you resolve the issue and get your Nest Cameras (Battery) to show up in the Google Nest app.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for your help, @MplsCustomer

I am thoroughly puzzled as to why you're providing steps that supposedly will allow the Nest Camera (Battery) to show up in the Google Nest app, when that is clearly impossible.

The Nest Camera (Battery) can ONLY be installed in the Google Home app, and CANNOT be installed in the Google Nest app. We've had one since it was first released in Sept. 2021, and it ONLY works in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app.

Hi MplsCustomer,

I'm sorry for any confusion caused by my previous response, and I appreciate your understanding. You are correct that the Nest Camera (Battery) is designed to be set up and managed through the Home app, rather than the Nest app. I'm sorry for any incorrect information provided.

  1. If you are experiencing issues with the Nest Camera (Battery) not appearing or functioning properly in the Home app, I recommend the following troubleshooting steps:
  2. Ensure you have the latest version of the Home app installed on your device. Check for any available updates in your app store and install them if necessary.
  3. Double-check that you are using the correct app. The Nest Camera (Battery) should be set up and managed exclusively through the Google Home app, and it may not be compatible with the Nest app.
  4. Restart your device and the camera. Try restarting your mobile device and power-cycling the Nest Camera (Battery) by disconnecting and reconnecting its power source.
  5. Check your Wi-Fi connection. Ensure that your mobile device and the Nest Camera (Battery) are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If there are any issues with your Wi-Fi connection, try troubleshooting your network or contacting your internet service provider.
  6. Reset and reconfigure the camera. If the issue persists, you may need to reset the Nest Camera (Battery) to its factory settings and set it up again in the Home app.

If you've tried these steps and are still experiencing difficulties, let me know.

Thanks,

Zoe
