Nest camera notifications disappear, camera is basically useless

I’m about to boycott this product. Ever since iOS 17 notifications appear for a second and immediately disappears, I even get the sound and vibrations.


This issue has been faced by many users for almost a year now and no resolution. I’ve tried everything. 

But Last night was the tipping point for me to conclude that this issue has rendered my cameras to be absolutely useless trash. We had an intruder attempt to break into our property while we were out. NOT A SINGLE NOTIFICATION. It wasn’t until the days later I noticed some activity in the time line.

 

I have the whole ecosystem, and even the nest speakers and displays are facing its own bugs. The  customer support is non existent. I’m just about ready to trash all my devices and never suggest your products again.


please do not tell me to go check my notification settings or reinstall my app, trust me I’ve done this many times.

To better assist you, I'd like to ask for the following information:

 

  • What type of Nest camera do you have?
  • Do you have a Nest Aware subscription?
  • Have you recently been receiving notifications?
  • Have you been able to see previous videos through Video History?
  • When did the inconvenience with notifications start?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

In the meantime, double-check that notifications are enabled, depending on the model of Nest camera you have. You can check out the next article: Change Nest notification settings.

  • What type of Nest camera do you have?
    • 3x Nest Outdoor (wireless), Nest doorbell, 2x Nest indoor wired
  • Do you have a Nest Aware subscription?
    • Yes, and how can you justify the price increases for the subscription this year with a bug that remains unresolved for more than a year and essentially makes it useless.
  • Have you recently been receiving notifications?
    • Yes, but only 50% of the time. The rest appear the disappear within a second the moment the lock screen lights up
  • Have you been able to see previous videos through Video History?
    • Yes all history is captured
  • When did the inconvenience with notifications start?
    • Since the very first iOS 17 release (late 2023)
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
    • Reinstalled app
    • Changing and reconfiguring the notification settings both on the Google home app and on the iPhone settings 
    • Restarting phone
    • Hard-resetting the cameras and re-pairing them to my phone
    • Trying on a different iPhone device
    • Using different Wifi connections
    • All of the above, probably 10 times!

All my other family members with iPhone also face this very same issue and is very frustrating. We've been using these for more than 4 years now and never had this issue before the iOS update.

I do not personally have an android device to test. But from my many months of searching for a solution, it appears to be all Apple mobile phones. The people complaining are also on iOS 17.

 

It is purely an issue with the Google Home app, as no other notifications from any other app disappear in such manner.

I just find it ridiculous that we pay for a subscription and this issue has pretty much rendered mine and many other affected cameras useless

 can you guarantee the next update with fix this issue?
