Nest camera only records when in the app

I have had a nest camera for about a year and a half. Worked perfectly, recorded motion, people, and cars and sent notifications to my phone. A couple months ago, i noticed i hadn't gotten any notifications recently. I went into the app and there hadnt been any recorded events in a week despite people coming going. While i was trying to troubleshoot, I noticed that if i walked in front of the camera while looking at the live view in the gogle home app, it picked up motion right away and sent me a notification. If I’m not in the app and walk by, there is no detection at all. I’ve tried changing the angle and factory resetting the camera, but to no avail. Does anyone know a fix for this. I hate to buy another nest camera only for it to do the same thing.

Advanced Troubleshooting:

  • Set up and use Activity Zones: You can create custom Activity Zones for your camera or doorbell for different types of activities that you want to be notified about. Just use the app to draw a zone around a specific area in your camera’s view.
  • Network Reset (if comfortable): If you're comfortable with it, consider restarting your Wi-Fi router. This can sometimes clear up communication issues between your Nest device and the network.
  • App Update: Ensure you're running the latest version of the app on your phone or tablet. Updates often contain bug fixes related to network connectivity or notifications for Nest devices.
