Nest camera turns on by itself

Why does my camera keep turning on for a few minutes and then off, even though it's not connected to my network? Makes want to chuck it out in the yard so it can see the grass.

I did have it connected at one time but took it off line.

Hi Maxsterr,

Uh-oh! We're sorry for the trouble. Cameras can only be automatically turned on or off by the phone’s location or by changing the structure mode using the app. Motion and sensor activity from devices such as Thermostat and Protect will not change the camera state and could cause the structure mode to change to Home but the camera devices to remain on. This is expected behavior because those signals cannot be attributed to an individual member of the family.

If you have the Home and Away feature turned on, turning it off will probably stop your Nest camera from turning on by itself. When Home and Away mode is on and you or everyone with shared access leaves with their phones, your Nest Camera will turn on by itself. The camera will switch back off when you or the first person with shared access returns home. In this case, I recommend you toggle the Home/Away button on the app to make changes. Also, turning off your phone location prevents the Home/Away Assist from working with your Nest Camera.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Best,

Zoe

Thanks for the info.

The camera isn't even connected to my network. I changed network providers a while ago and changed my network info and didn't set it back up yet. It will come on at least once day for around a minute or 2.

Hello Maxter,

I apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing. Let's troubleshoot your Nest Camera power issue and see if we can get it resolved quickly. Just to check: what type of Nest camera are you using? What is the status of the LED light on your camera when it is on and off? Do you get a message in the Nest or Google Home app that the camera is off?

Thanks for the help, @Zoe

I look forward to your response.

Best,
Edmond
