Nest cameras and doorbell have no audio on Android

Jamesy
Community Member

I have Nest cameras and doorbell. I watch through multiple mediums like my phone and tablet through the HOME APP. I've never had any issues with the audio.

However my android recently got updated as did Google HOMEAPP and now I can't hear audio when I'm watching video or doorbell.

I've been in the nest setting to make sure microphone was on. It is. I also checked and rebooted my phone and cameras and couldn't find any resolution.

Please help

Since "Blueqoull" locked my previous thread because hes an idiot, I'll just repost it again....

Whenever I try to monitor my cameras via my phone, the sound activates in "in-call' so I can barely hear it. Obviously this is a well documented issue, yet no one at Google has seemed to come up with a solution. Do I need to throw these junk ass cameras away and go with a better brand or is Google going to fix the issue?

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the additional information. We're still working on this. For everybody who hasn't tried making sure the media call volume is set to max, earbuds or Bluetooth headphones aren't being used. And trying it when there´s no active call in the background. Please try it now and let us know if the issue persists.

I look forward to your responses.

Thanks,

Renz

Hey everyone,

We apologize if this is taking longer than expected. Thank you for your patience with us. Google Home App 3.10 was rolled out yesterday for Android devices. Please check for an update on your Google Home app and let us know if the issue persists.

Android Ver 13 is the issue Google Home's audio cannot function.  It works via Apple and other versions of Android so it is related to the Googgle Home update as already highlighted here and to support.

I am travelling away from home now and not having audio is a huge concern.

I am using my tablet to cover the gap.

We NEED Google Home Developers to address this bug, it is what we have been asking.  When I get back home I am looking at claiming a refund on my six camera and going for another product I have been testing.  This has been way too long

Sound is playing through the earpiece (quietly) and not the speaker.  This was highlighted earlier.

Calling Google Home Deelopers! Please respond.

Same for me

When viewing my nest cameras via the home app, the live audio cuts out almost immediate. It use to work no issues, I have noticed this in the recent months. Hoping it would resolve on it own, if I download the video, the playback has full audio, its just during live viewing sessions I can't hear.

Having same issue. Here is the link on the forum.

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Nest-cameras-and-doorbell-have-no-audio...

When viewing live camera there is no sound. On Android v13. When it updated the sound stopped working when viewing live camera.

Same here. A few weeks ago I was live viewing my doorbell cam. I heard a fizzle noise in the audio and it just stopped working. Hasn't resolved itself on its own either. I do get audio in the recordings and when I use the mic manually I can her them and they can hear me. Just the Live viewing is not working anymore.

Sound from cameras was working then stopped, I can talk to someone but can't here them. Volume is up

Hello Ryder2023,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, is the audio issue persistent or intermittent? What is the make and model of your phone? Try using a different mobile phone and see if the issue persists. You may also try restarting your Nest Camera and Wi-Fi router.

Let us  know your update here.

Best,

Emerson

Same issue with thread: Nest cameras and doorbell have no audio on Android.

This is a well known issue with no sound on live video with Android v13. Multiple people tried each step that was sent but nothing has worked. Haven't had this issue before the update. Please escalate to tech side for a update to fix.

I have the same issue with Android Samsung S20 Ultra 5G.

It is persistent and restarting  WIFI Router doesn't help nor restarting the cameras and doorbells.

I have an issue when playing back recorded clips or watching live on the Google Home app. The audio is super quiet and only plays out of my earpiece speaker, and not my bottom firing speaker. If I'm using headphones it's load or if I download the video to my gallery, it's fine and plays loud through my bottom speaker as well. But when trying to talk to someone through my doorbell if I'm not home or something, it's super quiet and I can't hear them. When listening back to recorded clip, I pretty much have to put my ear to my phone to hear it and I can't watch it at the same time. The app is updated, all the sound settings is to the max, microphone settings on the camera is to the max, I have a good working camera (I know this because I had a camera that stopped working and got a new replacement recently). It seems like the app has a problem where it acts as if I'm in a phone call when I'm listening to recorded clips or watching live and just plays out of my earpiece speaker. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 so it's not like I have some bad phone or anything. Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?

FYI, all permissions have been triple checked to ensure they have all been “ALLOWED”. Microphone has been reviewed over ten times to ensure permissions reflect Allowed.

Having same issue but can't hear it with the earbuds either. Live audio stoped working. Never had this issue before. Tried everything, thinking it might be bluetooth but it's not, still have no audio. Only when viewing play back the audio kicks on half way through.

Same issue as me exactly

Hello everyone,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, is this the first time it happened? How far is your Nest Camera from your Wi-Fi router? Has the camera suffered any drops or impacts? Is the camera in a case or housing?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Check the Google Home app or Nest app permissions:
  • For Android users: Go to the phone’s Settings  Apps  Google Home or Nest  Permissions, and make sure Microphone is enabled.
  • For iOS users: Go to the device’s Settings  Google Home or Nest  Permission, and make sure Microphone is enabled.
  1. Test if your device’s microphone is working.
  2. Open your default voice recorder app or any other app that uses your device’s microphone and test the device’s microphone on the app.
  3. Check if the device is connected to a Bluetooth device that may be serving as the microphone.

To learn more, you may visit our public article about “Talk and listen with Nest camera or doorbell”.

Yes these were the suggestions when calling. Those are basics to check and still have the same issue with no sound on live video.

Multiple people have this issue in many threads on this forum. Some have given case numbers also for the no sound issue. This is to do with the android update, please fix this issue with no sound during live video.

I have tried all off this using the nest app my cameras work great but when using the home app (as we have brought a new camera ) there is no sound but when you play back videos there is sometimes sound but when I load on my ipad they work perfectly it seems an android issue

Please Google fix this issue with no sound when viewing live camera with Android update v13. This is affecting all user's in multiple threads. Gave case number, videos of the phone and access to camera. Can we bump this up to high priority so we can get a team working together to fix this.

Yes it was fine and now it doesn't work at all. It is NOT the talk and listen microphone it is general audio for the camera. When you have the camera on you could automatically hear the audio, now you cannot...fix this!!!!!!

I can confirm I'm using the talk and listen feature correctly.

I checked the Google Home app or Nest app permissions under settings> Apps> Google Home or Nest> Permission, and make sure the Microphone is enabled.

My microphone is working.

I opened the default voice recorder app or any other app that uses my device’s microphone and tested the device’s microphone on the app.

I am not connected to a Bluetooth device that may be serving as the microphone.

I have the same issue. Not been able to find a fix. It was fine prevoius.

As the subject says, how do I get audio from the speaker phone when I talk to someone or listen at history events?  Sounds only goes to earpiece like a phone call.

I have the same problem ? Did you find a solution?

No I have not found a solution

Yeah this is a issue with the update. If your on a phone call and view live video it plays sound but will not play sound if you are not in a phone call.

Many people with Android v13 are having this issue as no one is able to hear any sound when playing live video. Google needs to update for a fix. Please fix this issue Google nobody with Android can hear anything when playing live video.

Same here. This is not a user issue. It's happening to many people at the same time. I get a snippet of audio when I change my phone from landscape to portrait. There is audio in the event recordings, but not live.

Just did a phone call and opened up live video on one of my cameras. Sound was playing and kept the video of the camera up and ended the phone call. Went back in to view live video and have sound now.

Please try this amd see if it fixes the issue with no sound when viewing live video.

I'm sorry what is your proposed solution? To start a phone call? This is confusing

Yes, do a phone call put it on speaker phone.. while on phone call with speaker phone go to your home app and select any camera you have for live viewing while still on phone call in speaker phone. Then leave the live video up and end your phone call.

Didn't help here. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hi, Thanks for this suggestion which did work for me, but crucially you need to make sure the media volume is set to maximum. Turning up the volume when viewing the camera brings up the 'in-call' volume with the 'phone' icon, you need to touch the 3 dots at the top of the volume bar to bring up all the volume level settings and increase the media volume to maximum which has the 'musical note' icon. If your media volume is low people will think your suggestion hasn't worked.

Yeah it works for just a little while then you'll notice it goes back to no sound when viewing live video. Took about a day for it to go back to no sound when viewing live video.

What a shame, I thought you'd cracked it there.

Media volume is high.  Still does not work.

We do not want a workaround, we want a fix from Google Home developers for Andddroid V13

Yeah they said it's been pushed up to the higher support team but asked for them to post updates in this thread so we can all see and acknowledge.

Others with same issue I've gave them this link to this thread as the tech  team keeps mentioning the basic steps we all been through that don't work. Google really needs to fix this.

Great @1in1class

I asked for a ticket number for their developers work and did not get one.

This is very NOT typical of Google in days gone by.  Perhaps this is what we can come to expect . Such a shame their non-response

Worked while on the phone call.  Did not work after we hung up

Make phone call, put it on speaker phone. Then Minimize screen to access home app to bring up any camera while still on speaker phone call.

Then while live video is up end phone call with live camera video still up. Then you can exit live video and go back in with sound

1in1class

Yeah went back to no sound. That didn't fix it. Google please fix this issue.

Has anyone heard anything back from the support team on this issue?

Talked with them again and basically just same info given. Another case ID... but haven't heard back from their IT people that are to reach out.
