Nest cameras and doorbell have no audio on Android

Jamesy
Community Member

I have Nest cameras and doorbell. I watch through multiple mediums like my phone and tablet through the HOME APP. I've never had any issues with the audio.

However my android recently got updated as did Google HOMEAPP and now I can't hear audio when I'm watching video or doorbell.

I've been in the nest setting to make sure microphone was on. It is. I also checked and rebooted my phone and cameras and couldn't find any resolution.

Please help

Since "Blueqoull" locked my previous thread because hes an idiot, I'll just repost it again....

Whenever I try to monitor my cameras via my phone, the sound activates in "in-call' so I can barely hear it. Obviously this is a well documented issue, yet no one at Google has seemed to come up with a solution. Do I need to throw these junk ass cameras away and go with a better brand or is Google going to fix the issue?

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the additional information. We're still working on this. For everybody who hasn't tried making sure the media call volume is set to max, earbuds or Bluetooth headphones aren't being used. And trying it when there´s no active call in the background. Please try it now and let us know if the issue persists.

I look forward to your responses.

Thanks,

Renz

@EmersonB @Muddi or any other tech help... can you please escalate this up to the top IT teams who fix these issues.

We have no sound when viewing live video, it's on all Android v13 newest update along with Google home newest update. We provide all information needed to give to your  IT team to help fix this issue that many people are having. This has been across multiple threads. There is enough info for someone to provide a update on this.

Hello I've gotten this issue of the volume on the Google cameras to work on my indoor Google camera only, when using the Google home app. For some reason it only works for the indoor camera, and not for an outdoor Google cam and a Nest doorbell that are also devices on the app.  When I open the Home app, select the indoor camera,  I notice the volume is indicating 'in-call' volume, and hardly aubible.  But after close to 2 minutes, and still having the indoor camera open/selected, the volume comes on by itself and the volume now shows 'media' volume, which is louder, and what should be the correct volume category. Again this happens on its own after the approximately 2 minutes. But this does not happen for my outdoor and Nest doorbell as I have checked them both separately as well, the in call volume never turns to media and the volume never gets louder or detectable. Interestingly I have the Nest app still operating on my phone and use it regularly to check just the outdoor and doorbell cameras and ut works just fine! I can hear the volume coming ftom both of these devices just fine! So Google could totally have taken care of this problem by now by fixing this bug. I have some alternative fix for now , for myself, only because I have the Nest app operable on my phone as well and Iam not just relyingon the Google Home app. I have a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. Google you could respond to this feed and let us know that you are working on a fix for this?!

Sorry for sounding like a **bleep** but you obviously didn't do anything, either that or whoever you "escalated" this to doesn't care about supporting their customers so well all just make sure they get the crappy reviews they deserve and make sure no one else wastes their money on a crappy system that has absolutely no support from the company.

Now people using Google maps are having the same issue and yall still don't care?! That is one of your biggest platforms so that just goes to show how little Google cares about the customers that used to use/ buy their products because I guarantee after they see the lack of support after original purchase they will never use/ buy a Google product/ service again. One of the quickest ways of running one of the biggest companies in the country into the ground, especially when you can buy a product with much better specs/ performance and with actual customer support for 1/3 the cost of this $hit. Once they see their profits drop off they'll probably finally try to fix it but by that time the damage will be done so good luck trying to keep the company afloat over the next couple years.... you'll go back to just being a search engine lmao.

@5150_B9

Agree 100%

This forum has poor support staff and no ownership to represent Google customers.

It is a disgrace.  I am escalating this through another channel but I will update you here.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the delay. I understand that this is really important, and we want to look deeper into it. Can everybody answer the following:

  1. What type of Nest Camera do you have?
  2. What is the make and model of your phone or tablet?
  3. What is the Android OS or IOS version of your phone?
  4. What is the Google Home app version on your phone?

Follow the steps below to get the Google Home app version.

For Android devices

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Select My apps & games from the menu.
  3. Find the Google Home app.
  4. Go to What´s New, then scroll down to the app version.

For iOS devices

  1. Go to the iPhone's settings
  2. Find the Google Home app.
  3. Tap the Google Home app and scroll down to the app version.

I look forward to all of your responses.

Best,

Renz

We've posted are specs a few times.

This is on all outdoor/indoor 2nd generation nest cameras. Phone: Samsung galaxy S22 Ultra on Android v13 One UI 5.1.

For the Home App: Version 3.7.1.4

Jamesy

Those details have been provided here and to support with no response or idea when Google Home Developers have a fix.

@RenzJ can you provide an update and a trackable ticket number.  As my friends on this forum thread have explained it is only with Android v13 and above.  Sound comes out of the ear piece but not the speaker.

My Apple iPhone and other Android versions ALL WORK.  It is the Home app that does not work with the latest versions.

I am increasingly getting frustrated as zero response from Google!   3 weeks since logging a ticket and also posting here.

Please take ownership of this.

Hi @RenzJ

I have the following...none of which have audio on live or event playback. There is audio on downloaded events, and when I view it live on home.google.com. So, to put it simply, there is no audio when using the home app.

If I'm in a very quiet room I can faintly hear some noise on the app, but it's sooooo quiet it might as well not be there.

6 Nest Cam (battery) cameras, all powered by cable 24/7 - two different sites/WiFi networks/Home groups (3 cameras at each)

1 Nest Doorbell (battery)

Samsung Note 8 SM-N950F

Android version 9 OS

Home version 3.7.1.4

@RenzJ can we get an update on this please. Seems like each time has been us just repeating are specs with no update from are previous response.

Given that I have a Note 8 and it's getting a little sluggish I am in need of a new phone. I was going to get a Pixel 8, but given the lack of feedback and support here for this Google product, I will not be considering a Google phone now or anytime into the future. Very disappointing support from a company I've supported for years.

We all are having this issue with no sound when viewing live video. Android v13, like you mentioned it works if you are on a call or put your phone on speaker phone while viewing live video then sound comes on but no sound when just viewing live video. Will attach a link with a thread that many people are having same issue.

I'm not sure why is it marked as the "answer" to this problem unless Google is admitting their product is **bleep** and we all should throw our cameras away and go with something else

Derek31

There needs to be refund in place for members who are actively paying for a service that they cannot use because of Googles Issues. This is insane that a home monitoring system platform is allowing this issue to progress for so long. I take care of my elderly father and use these cameras to monitor nursing aids and so forth my wife's iPhone has no issue with the sound appears to be only be my Galaxy. @Lance_L any updated ETA for fix?

I take care of my elderly mom and use it to monitor her. This problem needs to be fixed.

Having same issue with no sound during live video. On Android v13 Samsung galaxy S22 Ultra. This has been an issue for many people with multiple threads. Will send you a link to that one.

Here is the link to the thread with multiple people having this issue. Google needs to do an update to fix this.

I am to assume that Google doesn't care that this point, and is laughing their way to the bank and having fun selling your information, because after all that's all Google is, an information company. They don't care about anything else

For the Android 14 update coming up soon people are already having more sound issues. This is now effecting Google Maps.

Will attach a link to the article:

https://www.autoevolution.com/news/google-maps-for-android-auto-loses-essential-feature-after-androi...

This is not good and needs to be fixed. With so many people effected by no sound and two Android updates later not a fix. Please address this issue.

@Lance_L @EmersonB @RenzJ  Can you please give us an update to this issue? It's been said that this was pushed up to the correct team but nothing has been mentioned.

Wyze just release their hard wired Doorbell v2, it's $40 and has twice the resolution, and probably 90% of the features of the Nest Doorbell. I'm gonna switch to it to see how it does since Google clearly doesn't give a $hit about properly supporting their products. I'm actually amazed at how bad the resolution is of Googles outdoor cams compared to my Wyze cams which are 1/3 the price. I was so dumb for investing in the Google ecosystem of cameras just because they integrate with the smart hubs.

I will be chasing a refund

Sadly, with all the so-called Google Nest staff o this thread, none have escalated this for attention or even provided us with a case number they have raised to support us on this issue.

Clearly support on this issue is fading as more people report the issue.  If we cannot get support hear or from support teams what is left for us to do?

I will raise havoc on Twitter and also sk out a path to get a refund and share it hear as my devices do NOT work

Same problem on my S10+. Worked fine and suddenly no live sound. Google needs to respond nationally to all us customers that they are working on it immediately. I can't hear communication with the postal man for entry. This is getting real bad and frustrating google.

Still no reply to this Google? Well time to ditch it for a better camera system.

Can we please get an update to this issue. Not a "sorry for delay" then repeat of same steps as mentioned 4 times by 3 different specialist. This is a huge issue widely known with no sound during live video.

As mentioned above this is affecting are security and daily use of the nest camera system. Many people pay for these services that are now having issues. Please fix this issue.

i have audio turned all the way up on my wireless outdoor camera and have no audio. i did not have this problem with my wired camera.

This is a huge issue with no sound during live video. They know about this and keep repeating on what's your system specs and your basic 101 as listed above.

Many people are affected by this issue. This is on Android v13 phones. Will attach a link on this forum with many people with same issue.

We gave a system specs along with are case numbes but they just hop on after a few days and repeat on asking system specs. They have said in the forum that it was escalated up but didn't give any information about an update. Here is the link:
