Nest cameras live feeds and replays hanging for minutes

I have 4 Nest cameras: Nest Indoor, Nest Indoor IQ, Nest Hello Doorbell and Nest Hub Max and I have subscription for the Nest service.

On all cameras, especially when using the Google Chrome browser, when I switch to the live feed or when I do a replay, the stream usually hangs for minutes before starting playing the actual video stream. From time to time it works instantaneously as expected. I have usually 3 cameras in 3 different windows or tabs to switch between them.

Why is it happening?

Are there more people experiencing this?

Hey tony12624120,

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with this. No worries, we'll check this out. What device are you using to view your cameras (phone, computer)? Are you using a mobile hotspot while accessing it? Also, have you tried any troubleshooting steps to fix this?

Thanks,

Archie

Hey tony12624120,

I just wanted to follow up to see if you still need our help. Please let us know as we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks,

Archie

Hi,

Thanks for assisting me,

I usually use the Google Chrome browser to view my camera's on my MacBook Pro 2019 laptop.

I am using my local Wi-Fi network at home (2.4GHz/5GHz auto-select), and I observe long stream delays when switching to the camera view. Spinning, spinning for minutes.

So my camera's are connected to home Wi-Fi network and my laptop as well (for viewing)

I switched once my laptop to connect to to my phone Wi-Fi network (Hotspot) and it seems little less delay on my laptop while all cam's are still on my home Wi-Fi network.

Other things I have tried are unplugging the power cord and restarting the camera's.

I can see one camera with the street view is always delayed by 3-4 seconds with respect to the other camera with the same street view, which is already delayed to the real-time with about 3-4 seconds. So the delay on the second camera is huge and about 10s.

Still the most annoying is looking at the spinner and waiting for the stream to start (takes sometimes minutes)

What can I improve/try to solve the problem ?

Hey there,

I am terribly sorry to hear that you're having this issue! I would love to assist you with this issue. If you are having issues with your Nest Cam or Nest Doorbell, I would suggest that you first start by restarting it.

Restart: Keeps all your settings, and it should reconnect to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever becomes frozen, has trouble reconnecting to the internet, or isn't working normally.

Best regards,

Brad

I have written in my post above: "Other things I have tried are unplugging the power cord and restarting the camera's. "

So I think I already tried "resetting", when I go to settings there is no Reset option, so the only reset is unplug and plug in again the power cord.

Anything else I could try?

Hey folks!

Thanks for your help Archie and Brad.

tony12624120, thanks for your efforts. Let's have a better look — a few questions:

  1. Have you tried to restart your router?
  2. Have you checked your Nest app if you experience the same issue?
  3. Have you tried to clear the cache and cooking of your chrome browser?

Looking forward for your response.

Thanks,

JT

I did 1. and 2.

I will also try to clear cache and cookies but I don't understand how this could help... ?
