Nest doorbell 3rd gen live video upon detection

Dlm503

Just installed the gen 3 doorbell and most everything seems to work. My main issue I would like solved is how to display person detected at the door without them ringing doorbell? I do have the nest hub and it will display live video when someone rings the doorbell. I would like to see live video on the display when someone is detected but they have not rung the doorbell. I do get notifications on my phone but I want to see the video on the display. Most days I am at work but the wife is home. I mainly set this up for the wife for when I am not home.  I want to see the video on the nest hub display as soon as the detection happens. Seeing and getting a notification on the phone doesn't help the wife at home when I am at work or on the road.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand that you might be looking for a way to get the video when a person is in front of the door without the necessity to ring the doorbell and see it on your Nest Hub, let me share some information with you!

First, I want to thank @MplsCustomer and @mdr2 for sharing some information and workarounds for this concern, I appreciate it!

Now, regarding the implementation of this feature on our devices, I understand this could change a lot of the settings and functionality of your device to keep it working and monitoring when someone is in front of the door or other devices just with motion detection. It sounds like a great idea! So for the same reason, I want to share with you our feedback form to share your thoughts there! We are always looking forward to improving our services and products.

I hope this helps!

Best regards,

Debora

The only notifications that Google Nest sends to Google Nest speakers from Google Nest cameras are "Visitor announcements" when a doorbell button is pressed:

We haven't used automations, but perhaps it is possible to do what you want using automations.

I have been on this user forum for years and many people have request that feature (including me) and Google just never implements it.   So I think your best next option is using the new GEMINI person detection will at least send an alert to your phones when a person is seen.  Keep in mind ANY person it sees will send an alert which might be a problem if you doorbell looks out onto the street.

Hope this helps.
