Nest doorbell battery on nest app

Will there be an update that will allow the nest battery doorbell to work with the nest app?

I doubt it. My understanding is that Google is trying to get rid of the Nest app.

No. All functionality of Nest app is being migrated to Google Home app. Web interface coming in 2022. All new camera are Google Home app only going forward
