Nest doorbell cam not recording clips

We just replaced our Nest doorbell cam and now it does not record events. The app shows there’s an event, it shows how long the clip is, but all we can view is a snapshot of the event. I’ve tried to turn on “video recording” in the Google Home settings, but it automatically toggles itself back off. We never had this issue with the old doorbell.

Your post says you have a "Nest Doorbell (wired Gen 2)", but we only get a "Video recording" option in the Google Home app for our older, 1st gen cameras and doorbells.

Is it possible you just installed a (1st gen) Google Nest Hello Doorbell? If so, did you have a 1st gen Nest Aware subscription on your old doorbell? If so, you can't buy them anymore:

"As of July 13, 2023, Google will no longer sell new subscriptions of 1st gen Nest Aware. Any 1st gen subscriptions that you currently have will continue to renew."

And you can't transfer a 1st gen subscription to a different camera:

"Once a subscription has been assigned to a camera, it can’t be moved to a different one."

The newer (since mid-2020) Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions apply to ALL cameras and doorbells in the same Google Nest "home/structure". That's what we have, and it applies to our older and newer cameras.

If you don't have a Nest Aware subscription, all you can get on 1st gen cameras and doorbells are still photos for the most recent 3 hours:

Yes, we signed up for the Nest Aware subscription and everything is working properly now.
