Nest doorbell notification delay on Android

RonDel

  • Last couple of months have noticed a delay of several minutes in getting Nest doorbell notifications on my Samsung android phone. No delays on iPhone just on Android phone.  Phone is S23 and all updated. Anyone have a solution?

Hi @RonDel

Does your android phone has any of power management enabled on the Home app?
Maybe check if the Home app has battery usage unrestricted.

All the power management settings are good. Lots of other people having same issues so pretty sure not my phone. You would think it would work better with Android than Apple but I guess not.

Notifications can take hours on my devices sometimes the next day or never. Its been like this for over a year and never improved.

Makes them useless for security purposes, if that's the case.

Anyone from Google/Nest have anything to comment on here?

Hi folks,

RonDel, thanks for reaching out.  Is the issue happening with push notifications or both email and push? Do you all receive push notifications on multiple devices? Also, are your mobile devices connected to a network?

Could you all try to connect the mobile device to another Wi-Fi or cellular network? Signing in to your account on another mobile device and triggering a notification to test might also help isolate this.

Thanks for the help here, RXShorty.

Regards,

Juni

Google constantly blame everything else except for their faulty products and software. Obviously this is a problem for multiple users and its a google software issue. Google dont like to admit their inferior products are at fault.

I had already tried all of those things. Nothing worked. There is obviously an issue with Android/Samsung devices and Nest (ironic isn't it?). As I said previously, no issues on getting the notifications on an iPhone On the same wifi/network and even on other wifi (ie. Not my home one). They all work fine. Just doesn't on my S23.

Hi RonDel,

Thanks for the details you've shared. Did it work before on your Samsung phone? If so, were there any recent changes on your Samsung phone setting that might have caused this? Try using another android phone if possible to further isolate this.

I look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Juni

Notification delay from Nest wired doorbell on Pixel 6 Pro since last Android update as well. No problem with Wyze camera notifications. This, as was said previously, is useless now as a security device. Same issue with Pixel 6 (not Pro) and Nest doorbell at my son's house. We've tried everything we can think of with no success. This issue is terribly frustrating!

I also have the same issue with an S23. I didn't have this problem with my S10. Sometimes the notifications don't appear until I turn on the screen or unlock my phone. When at home, I can hear my husband's S10 vibrate almost immediately, but mine takes forever. Or like I said, it won't even notify until I unlock my phone.

I have all notification permissions allowed, including to show on lock screen.

Switching to mobile data sometimes makes the notifications come in quicker. But that makes no sense since being on the same home wifi should be faster. My doorbell is 8ft from the router and I often sit on the couch at about the same distance and still have delayed notifications.

I just updated my phone and the delays are worse now than with my old phone. Go figure. When will google take responsibility for their ineptness?

If Google carries on with this farcical  service and support I'll be cancelling when my subscription ends next June and going  for the Eufy system. with a local hard drive storage, network capability with remote alerts and access, facial & vehicle recognition, plus solar powered camera options. If only I found these people sooner.

I'm having the same problem. delays between 5 and 20 minutes - and this is while I'm at home on the same network!  Google clearly has a serious problem (affecting a lot of people) they need to solve at their end. There's only 2 doors and no wall between the doorbell and Google router. Google should be ashamed of this atrocious service

Google's responses are in complete denial they have a problem. I'll be going on to Reddit/Twitter/Facebook/instagram and trustpilot to alert people toGoogle's complete denial, refusal to take responsibility for  this deplorable service and support they provide

Delays here too for the Nest doorbell on Android.

I have three outdoor Nest cameras experiencing no lag (including one about six feet from the doorbell, but pointing in a different direction). All are on the same WiFi network.

The doorbell, though... Doorbell rings come through immediately on my Android devices, but video notifications lag up to an hour -- and occasionally more. It's been like this for about a month.

Troubleshooting:

  • Rebooted the router and the phones (both Pixel 6 and 7a).
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled both apps (Nest and Google Home).
  • Checked that both phones have the apps set for "unrestricted battery."
  • Checked for app updates.
  • Examined the WiFi networks for problems/interference.
  • It's a wired Nest doorbell, so difficult to power cycle it.

It really looks like the problem is on Google's servers.

I have the same issue on my flip4 oneui5.1 I will be home for about 8 minutes and the nest/google home tells me some one is at the back door.  It was me.

All the apps are non battery restricted and flagged to never be put to sleep.

I've even locked the google home app in my recent page and that doesn't even work.

It's 100% a samsung thing though because all my other android devices get the notifications right away.

Don't think it is solely a Samsung issue, as recently my Pixel 7 Pro has started having this issue. The iPhones in my household are doing fine though.

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry for the delay and to hear you're having trouble with this. I appreciate your reports here in the Community.

If you haven’t done so already, follow the troubleshooting steps below (try to trigger a notification to test after each step):

  • Connect the mobile device to another Wi-Fi or cellular network.
  • Sign in to your account on another mobile device.
  • Connect the Nest cameras to a different network.

More information here: Nest notifications not working.
