Nest doorbell wired notifications stopped working

Had the best doorbell for close to a year now, notifications have worked fine in all that time.

All of the sudden I'm no longer getting motion or alert notifications on my pixel 8 from the nest doorbell and home app. Pressing the doorbell button does not produce a notification on my phone, it creates a notification on hub device, but nothing on phone

Have tried restarting phone, clearing cache, forcing app to stop...

Last update to app on 4 sep

Please help!

Same problem for me for the whole Home app. If I look at a camera's history, I can see logged events, but my phone isn't notifying me of any of them.

What type of Nest Doorbell do you have?

Did you receive any notifications in the past?
Were there any changes to the Wi-Fi network?
Do you use email or push notifications?
Are there other family members who can access the camera? Do they receive any notifications?
Has the camera been moved recently?
Are there any Activity Zones set up for the Nest Doorbell?

Nest doorbell wired

Did you receive any notifications in the past?

Yes for over 9 months I've been receiving the notifications perfectly fine on the same Pixel 8

Were there any changes to the Wi-Fi network?

No, I can connect to the live stream perfectly fine i.e. the device is fully connected to the wifi network

Do you use email or push notifications?

Push

Are there other family members who can access the camera? Do they receive any notifications?

No one else has access to my camera

Has the camera been moved recently?

No

Are there any Activity Zones set up for the Nest Doorbell?

No

Yes

Yes, and yes

Also, as a note, this is effecting ALL cameras in the Home app, I no longer receive any notifications whilst other family members do. All notifications are turned on and enabled.

  • Turn off and on all notification settings in the app: In the Google Home app, go to general settings and turn off all notification settings, close the app, and then turn them on again.
  • Verify app permissions: Ensure that all notification permissions are enabled for the Google Home app on your phone.
  • Make sure that "Critical alerts" is enabled.

I've completed these steps but still no notifications.

Have also cleared cache, cleared storage etc. and still no notifications

Pixel 8,

In the meantime, we can also try the following steps:

 

  • Test on another mobile device: if you have another cellphone or tablet, you can download the Google Home app with the right account and check if you get notifications from the Nest Doorbell on that device.
  • Make sure the camera is pointed to an area that isn't too bright or dark; this will allow the Nest Doorbell to detect the activity without any difficulty.

Can you view the event video history without any trouble?

Yes, events come up instantly in the app and can be accessed without any trouble.

Does the Nest Doorbell appear online in your Google Home app?

Yes

What are the upload and download speeds near the device?

download is 105mb/s and upload is 18mb/s

 

As i've said before, the device is working fine, the internet connection is stable. When the device doorbell is pressed, there is no notification on my Pixel 8 but there is a notifcation on my google hub so to answer your question about other devices, yes it works fine on other devices.

Hi

I've filled in the form

Nothing has happened and I still have a useless doorbell

Google this is really poor customer service, the device is not even a year old and has not been properly functioning for half the time I've had it

So disappointed in the doorbell and your customer service

 

I've taken the troubleshooting steps to no avail. 

For the specific questions:

  • What is the current version of your Google Home app?

3.23.1.3

  • What is the model of your phone, and what is its firmware version?

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, firmware is Android 14. 

  • What are the upload and download speeds near the device?

Download is 74Mbps, upload is 17Mbps.
