Nest doorbell wired offline!

Dane1995
Community Member

Just fitted our nest doorbell 1st gen, wired.

Used a wall plug as we don't have doorbell cables installed.

Anyway, connected up fine, setup ect..

Once I open the app after setup, the camera is always "offline" but this is rubbish because I see the green operations light on and the doorbell rotating light as blue.

I have checked my routers ip and it shows the camera as connected with good signal, I even moved the router 2m closer to the camera thinking it was signal loss.

So everytime I open the Nest app I have to walk up to my camera and reconnect the doorbell manually, and it works perfectly again, up until I close the app and it loses connection again!!

What is going on, these things are terrible!

@Dane1995

What adapter are you using for your Nest Hello doorbell? We have the Ohmkat Power Adapter for the Nest Hello for the one doorbell that wasn't wired, and it works fine.

Hey, thanks for replying.

So I'm using a power adaptor from Amazon, really good reviews ect..

The camera is getting enough power as it isn't displaying it via the colour indicator.

Also the camera actually seems to function correctly, it senses people and records, I can see this via the colour lighting too.

The camera randomly sends motion detection to my phone, but disconnects seconds later

It is connected to my network with decent signal, via my routers IP.

However the problem is displaying this on the nest app or Google home app.

My router is less than 2m away, with 500mbps down and 100up.

Other than Wi-Fi issues, I don't have any other suggestion for why your Nest Hello is functioning as it is. Our 3 Nest Hellos are consistently online without issues. Maybe you have a defective doorbell. You could try contacting Support with this link:

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this, as I can imagine it has been an inconvenience. I would love to look into this further for you. What are your Wi-Fi speeds that you regularly see? It seems to be a connectivity concern from what I have read here. Have you tried to restart or factory reset your doorbell?

Best regards,
Brad

Yes, my speeds never drop below 400mbps, and 100up.

My router is around 2m away from the camera, routers IP shows strong signal to the camera, and it never disconnects from the router. However will say "offline"

I have factory reset the camera, multiple times. I have deleted the home in the app and reset everything up.

@Dane1995 thanks for getting back to us and for giving us your update. To know more about this, I'd like to ask some questions: have you tried using a different mobile device during setup? Have you tried creating a new home structure? If not and if possible, please try it and let us know how it goes.
