Nest doorbell won’t let me answer when someone rings the doorbell .

If this has already been answered in the blog please let me know where to look for answers .   My nest doorbell won’t let me answer and talk to the person outside when someone rings the doorbell .  When someone rings the doorbell the camera goes blank and has the spinning circle as if trying to connect . In all other events ( except when the doorbell is rang) the camera is working fine without any issues .  I am still using the nest app should I be using the Google home app? This happens on my iPhone and my computer Nest app.   Any help would be very helpful .

@Shubhanan

If you are still using the Google Nest app, then your doorbell must be the older 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell, and not the 2nd Gen Google Nest Doorbell indicated in your post, since the 2nd gen doorbell works only in the Google Home app.

Your issue might be that the internal battery in your Nest Hello is failing. This causes the doorbell to go offline whenever the doorbell button is pressed. This has happened to all 3 of our Nest Hello doorbells, and to hundreds of other customers' doorbells; see this long post with over 1,000 replies: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Nest-Hello-Doorbell-cuts-out-when-butto....

Since Google Nest says they "cannot" replace such doorbells if they're past the 1-year warranty, we're using the workaround of turning off the "Indoor chime" option on the doorbell. This means our indoor doorbell chime no longer rings, but our doorbells stay online even when the doorbell button is pressed. We instead turned on the "Visitor announcements" option (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451), to get doorbell announcements on our Nest Hubs and Nest Mini.

A few customers have tried prying open their doorbells to replace the indoor battery, but the doorbells are not really designed to be pried open:

Thank you very much for that explanation, appreciate it

Hello everyone,

@Shubhanan, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, how far is it from your Wi-Fi router? What is your internet speed from where your Nest Doorbell is placed? Were there any recent power or Wi-Fi outages in your area?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Check the Google Home app or Nest app permissions:
  • For Android users: Go to the phone’s Settings Apps Google Home or Nest Permissions, and make sure Microphone is enabled.
  • For iOS users: Go to the device’s Settings Google Home or Nest Permission, and make sure Microphone is enabled.

        2. Test if the device’s microphone is working.

        3. Open the default voice recorder app or any other app that uses your device’s microphone and test the device’s microphone on the app.

        4. Check if the device is connected to a Bluetooth device that may be serving as the microphone.

        5. You may also try it with an Android phone if you have one.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Regards,

Emerson
