Nest - have to login every day

MethylOrange
Community Member

Small issue but annoying.

PC/Win 11 Pro

My browser (Edge) is set to open the same tabs every day. 2 of which are gmail and nest (https://home.nest.com/)

Gmail always opens OK. Nest always, without fail, needs me to login again by clicking the button to login, then selecting my google username  (don't have to put in password).

This is annoying - why won't it remember who I am?

I've been into settings and ensured nest.com is in the Allow Search result match: The following sites can save cookies on your device  section to no avail.

As an experiment I have also tried with Chrome, and it does the same thing.

Does this work for others?

My PC was in sleep mode for an hour, and it's back to this screen again:

Hi MethylOrange,

Thanks for reaching out and for being a step ahead of us. Check out these troubleshooting steps and let me know if it worked for you.

  1. Verify the device’s Date and time settings are correct and automatically set. Don't set them manually.
    1. Click the time at the bottom-right corner of the screen  and then  select Change date and time settings.
    2. Select the Internet Time tab and then Change Settings.
    3. Check Synchronize with an internet time server and then Update Now.
  2. Make sure the web browser is on the latest version.
  3. Close the browser, and relaunch it.
  4. Check for any possible browser extensions or add-ons that may be installed and prevents the functionality of Adobe Flash. Do not remove or uninstall any extensions, only disable them for troubleshooting purposes.

 How to disable add-ons

  1. Google Chrome
    1. In the upper-right corner of the Chrome window, click the Menu icon and then select Settings.
    2. Select the Extensions link in the upper-left corner of the screen.
    3. Any extensions that have a check mark are enabled.
    4. Disable any add-ons that are enabled.
    5. Close the browser (use the keyboard shortcut Alt + F4), and relaunch it.
  2. Microsoft Edge (Windows 10 only)

Microsoft Edge currently doesn't support browser extensions or add-ons (Microsoft may add this in the future).

Instead, make sure that Microsoft Edge allows Adobe Flash to work:

  1. In the upper-right corner of the Edge browser window, select the 3 horizontal dots.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select View Advanced Settings.
  4. Set Use Adobe Flash Player to On.

Regards,

Juni

Hello, thanks for the reply

I tried to first few to no avail. However I am unable to see anything referring to Adobe Flash in settings. Can you show me a screenshot please?

Hello MethylOrange,

Thanks for trying that. Try to reset the browser cache and history, then relaunch the browser. Check out the steps below for Microsoft Edge (Windows 10 only)

  1. In the upper-right corner of the browser window, select the three horizontal dots (under the X).
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Under Clear Browsing Data, select Choose What to Clear.
  4. Check the boxes for Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files.
  5. Select Clear. You should get a quick message that states All Clear.

Best,

Hi everyone,

@MethylOrange, I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. How's it going with your Nest account? Were you able to perform the latest steps suggested by Juni? We'd be glad to hear from you.

Thanks for answering, Juni.

I've experienced a similar issue with Nest and have found a workaround that might help. Instead of accessing Nest directly through the browser, you can try using the Nest app provided by Adobe. The Adobe Nest app allows you to access and control your Nest devices without the need to log in  every day. You can download the Adobe Nest app from their official website or through app stores for your specific device (e.g., Google Play Store for Android or the App Store for iOS). Give it a try and see if it resolves the inconvenience of having to log in repeatedly.

Well thanks but it's not really a workaround. I have the Nest app on my phone and that works fine.

It's the web browser where I need it to work.

On 2nd glance your answer looks quite spammy. Nest browser by Adobe? Is this your first day on the internet, or perhaps you think it's my second? The link you provided also looks like something to avoid.

Fact remains the only person who tried to help was a spammer! Shame on you google/adobe 😄

Hello everyone,

@MethylOrange, thanks for getting back to us. To confirm, have you tried removing the cookies and cleared the cache of your web browsers? In case you don't, please do so so that the next time you sign in, your web browsers will ask again your permission to save your login credentials and remember it. You may also reinstall your web browsers to make sure you have the updated version. Looking forward to your response.

We appreciate your suggestions, sumeydrane412.

Emerson

Yes I've done all the suggestions. Did you see the malware one where it suggested I download "Nest from Adobe"? 😄

Surprised you have left that link up there.

Nothing you suggested has helped I'm afraid.

Hey MethylOrange,

Thanks for your update. To further isolate this issue, could you try logging in on your mobile phone's web browser and check if you're getting the same issue? Try installing the previous version of your web browser for us to check if they're having a bug on they're latest version. Let us know your update here.

I've now moved on to Chrome - same thing but I believe this is due to having multiple Google/Gmail profiles on the same PC. With just one profile it's OK. I'd like a way to "tell" Nest that "always use Profile n" so it remains logged in
