Nest hello doorbell

I bought this, following review and all my devices are Android so it should work well.

I am replacing another Video doorbell, that has never worked very well and I hade to have hard wired, so I thought I would buy this and as the wiring was already there.

I have asked my electrician to wire it in for me, he is reluctant as he has just wired in a Ring video bell and was called back because it wasn't working only to find it needs a transformer. He said

they wait till you buy a product then you find you need something else, in small print on the side of the Nest box I now find I need a transformer. Another thing is in the box there is a chime to add to my existing doorbell, I don't have an existing door bell. does that matter?

I called John Lewis for help they said go straight to Google and gave me the number I called at 2.30 pm UK time and the message said Google was closed. So no help there I am 69 I don' know what to do

If you bought a Nest Doorbell (wired) and you didn't have an existing doorbell installed with an indoor chime box, the only place you'll be able to "hear" your doorbell is on your phone or if you have a Google Hub and have notifications set correctly.  The physical doorbell itself will chime at the door when someone pushes the button, but whether or not you will hear that depends on how big your home is, how far away from that doorbell you are, etc.

This doorbell was meant to be powered by the existing doorbell wiring you had when you remove the old, regular doorbell, possibly also requiring a transformer upgrade to the one powering that old doorbell.

If you didn't have any existing wiring in place for a doorbell, transformer, and the doorbell chime, Google Support is going to tell you to buy this, and that's probably all the help you will get. Their other recommendation would likely be to hire an electrician to install an electronic chime box and the wiring and transformers to power the doorbell.

As best as I can tell, the "Ninety7 Indoor Power Adapter for Google Nest Doorbell" listed on the Google Store has NEVER been available, and has always said "Coming soon".

The OhmKat power adapter and chime that I mentioned in my post above is working well for us, and OhmKat answers their customer service number and is responsive.

That sounds on-brand for getting accessories/replacement parts from Google for the Nest Doorbell.  Is this the adapter you purchased?

I think Wasserstein, which makes a lot of other Nest accessories, also makes one too.

I think they just assume everyone knows the Nest Hello is a wired device intended to replace a wired doorbell.

In January, we installed a Google Nest Hello Doorbell to our third entrance, which was never wired for a doorbell. It's powered with an OhmKat Video Doorbell Power Supply Compatible with Nest Hello. This is a plug-in transformer with a 12-foot cord (extensions available) that needs to be plugged in indoors. We had an outlet not too far from the door and we drilled a 1/4-inch hole to the outside to feed the wires through. We also bought an OhmKat Wireless Universal Video Doorbell Chime; it's an electronic chime that we plugged in in a nearby room.  (You are not required to have a chime; you can use "Visitor announcements" to Nest Hubs or Nest Minis instead.) If you do have an indoor doorbell chime (we have an old mechanical one), you do NOT use the Nest Hello chime connector with this adapter, and the adapter and electronic chime work well. If you go this route, be sure to get the US versions unless you live in a country with 230-volt outlets.  (I mistakenly ordered a chime with a UK plug and called their customer service on New Year's Eve and they immediately sent a US version and had me mail back the UK version.)

Thank you for your advice I am in UK, I have had some advice on which transformer to buy.

I can't get to your Home Depot link, but Home Depot does sell the OhmKat power adapter, and I also see the Wasserstein power adapter listed.  I went with the OhmKat adapter because I saw better reviews, a little longer cord, and because it can work with the OhmKat electronic chime.

Thank you for your help, I do have an existing video doorbell, which was wired in 2 years ago ,has never worked very well. I don't need it to chime as I have another doorbell and require this when I am not in the building.
