Nest indoor wired camera (2nd Gen) needs motion detection increased

ShudderFoot

I recently set up my camera and have turned on notifications for everything. The camera is still missing people and animals that are at a distance. (maybe 20 feet) I also tried activity zones and that didn't help. I'm guess I just need a second camera but thought I'd ask if the motion detection can be further increased?

Hello ShudderFoot,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you. The Nest Camera has a single motion sensor with a 110° horizontal field of view. Up to 25 ft (7.5 m). Have you tried turning on the Motion in the Seen Events settings?

Here are the steps to turn On Motion in the Seen Events settings.

1. Open the Google Home app.
2. Select the Camera.
3. Tap More > Settings > Events > Seen Events.
4: Under Events History, Turn On Motion.

Let me know if that works.

Thanks.

Yep, I've already turned all that on.

Hey ShudderFoot,

If Motion is already turned on in the Seen Events Settings, Let's try to reset the Nest camera to factory default and reinstall it on the Google Home app. Here is a link on how to do a factory reset on the Nest camera.

I look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edmond

Hey there,

I'm sorry for the confusion. Actually there is a option to change the motion detection for the Nest Camera there is an option for that. Here are the steps:

1. Open the Google Home app.
2. Select the Camera.
3. Tap More > Settings > Video > Wake up sensitivity.
4: Set it to High.

Let me know if that helps.

Best,
Edmond.

Google Home App doesn't have that setting for my 2nd Gen wired camera. All I have is what's in the image I linked to. https://imgur.com/gallery/00Qcr4t

Hello there,

Thanks for trying. Have you tried it on a different device? If you don't have a spare device, try it on https://goo.gle/2UZL8VI.Make sure you sign in with the same email address on the Google Home app.Let me know if you still don't see the option for the Wake-up sensitivity.

Thanks,
Edmond

I've tried. No additional options. The link you provided just routes me to the google home page.

Hi ShudderFoot,

We'd like to know more about this. Please fill out this form so we could investigate further.

Best,
Edmond

I'm not going to spend more time on this. If you'd like to copy all the details here into another form please do. I'm just chalking this up to a not existing feature. Or one that was removed and it's just not common knowledge yet. I appreciate that you tried to help. Have a nice day.

Hi ShudderFoot,

I just wanted to follow up and see if you still need any help. Let me know if you have any additional questions from here.

Thanks,
Edmond

The suggested actions don't answer the actual question. All I want to know is if there is a way to adjust the sensitivity of the motion detection. Other cameras I've worked with have that setting. I'm guessing there isn't a way to for it.
