Nest outdoor battery not picking up vehicles at angle

Have a Google nest outdoor battery camera at my gate.  It won't pickup a vehicle at an angle until it it drives through my gate.  Not even big FedEx trucks.  Does the camera only really work when it picks up at a 90° angle?  Pic posted shows where vehicles stop for me to open gate.  Why won't I get notified at this point.  Vehicle can sit for 10 minutes and still won't let me know until I open the gate and they are halfway through.    Obviously the camera has wifi and is working.  Just doesn't pick them up sooner.  I have a zone set up to do so, also have vehicle notifications on.

Hi Scarface06,

Yikes! If your Google Nest outdoor battery camera is not consistently detecting vehicles at an angle until they have driven through your gate, there could be a few factors contributing to this behavior. Try these:

  1. Ensure that your camera is positioned correctly to capture the desired areas. Check the camera's field of view and adjust its angle if necessary. Experiment with different mounting heights or angles to optimize the camera's coverage.
  2. Review the motion detection settings in the Nest app for your camera. Confirm that you have the appropriate motion detection zone set up to cover the area where vehicles stop at the gate. Adjust the sensitivity and detection zones as needed to ensure proper coverage.
  3. Check the Wi-Fi signal strength in the area where the camera is installed. Poor Wi-Fi connectivity can impact the camera's performance and its ability to detect and send notifications for motion events. Consider relocating your Wi-Fi router or using a Wi-Fi range extender to improve signal strength.
  4. Identify any potential obstacles or environmental factors that may be affecting the camera's ability to detect vehicles. Large objects, vegetation, or other physical obstructions in the camera's line of sight could hinder motion detection. Clear any obstructions that might be blocking the camera's view.
  5. Ensure that your camera's firmware and the Nest app are up to date. Regularly updating the camera's firmware and app can improve performance and address any known issues or bugs.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
