Nest outdoor camera missed activity

Just recently installed my nest cam security under my porch. It was working as expected, food delivery drop offs to my neighbour walking up the path yesterday, even went as far as picking up people 20m away on the other side of the street which I was def not expecting,  however I didn’t pick my partner coming up the pathway last night at all.  My nest doorbell did when they approached the front door but I bought the camera for picking up all activity for security.  I have triple checked the activity and it’s missing all together. So no notification or 30 second recording. It was like them walking up the path didn’t exists. Settings have not been changed, wifi is strong as I use google products throughout the house all day and have no issues. 
worried it’s not going to do it’s job for when I really need it.  Advice or reasons this would have happened would be greatly appreciated

A few questions: what type of Nest cameras do you have? Do you have an iOS or Android device? Does the issue occur on multiple mobile devices? Also, are you using the Google Home or the Nest app?

Thanks for replying. It’s a google nest battery security cam.  I am on iOS.  Since then it’s happened a few times with food deliveries. Seems to be a night thing.  The google nest doorbell camera picks them up but by that stage they are at the front door.  
my partner is on android and had the same issue when the delivery driver came up the path at night.

Let’s try the troubleshooting steps below:

 

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices.
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile > More > Settings.
  4. Select Events.
  5. Make sure the events you want to receive are on. If they are already on, turn them off and then turn them back on.
  6. Trigger a notification to test.

I have completed this. And have done so before. It’s intermittent and doesn’t always work as expected and misses some people in the camera path. Again this happened with a delivery this evening. Seems to be a night thing.

Hi Sam578,

 

I’m sorry for the inconvenience and delay. You can create an Activity Zone for your camera to fine-tune the events that you want captured and get notifications.

 

Follow the steps below:

 

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices.
  3. Select the camera that you want to make an Activity Zone for.
  4. Tap More > Settings > Events > Seen Events.
  5. Choose + Add a zone. The new zone appears in the middle of the camera’s view.
  6. Change the shape of the zone to capture what you want.
  • Turn your phone to go into landscape mode for a full screen of your camera’s view. Make sure the screen rotation setting on your phone is on. 
  • Tap and drag inside the zone to move it.
  • Tap and drag any of the 8 dots on the sides of the zone to change its shape.
  1. To change the color of the Activity Zone, tap Zone color. You can pick from 4 different colors.
  2. Under the camera view, tap on the Zone name to give your zone a descriptive name.
  3. Under Event History, you can choose which types of events you want to record in that zone and which notifications you want to receive.

Hi Lance. 
I have my zones already set up and types of events i want recorded.  
I haven’t noticed if the it’s still happening. Will keep an eye.
