Nest v Google Home App with 2021 products notifications

Hi Guys,

I’ve been using Google Nest for many years now, and have Google Home all setup as well.

In nest app I have the following listed

1 x Nest Hello Wired Doorbell.

1 x Nest Thermostat.

2 x Nest Protects.

I receive notifications from Nest app all the time and works perfectly, also have Nest Aware.

The problems is I’ve just purchased a floodlight with camera also indoors camera for business  and setup a different account for work. I’ve seen from posts that the latest Google Products after 2021 needs to be setup in the Google Home App, instead of Nest App. I know that Google wants to delete the Nest App at some point and have everything under Google Home. So under the business account I’ve shared the account with me and I can see the cameras in Google home on my main personal account no problem. The problem is I’ve never received Google Home notifications ? even on my personal account. Everything I can see has been setup correctly and everything is switched on.

Does having a Nest account as well make a difference like getting notifications, so if you have both apps does Nest App take priority?

I need to get notifications from my business account from Google Home, because the latest cameras don’t work in Nest App.

I would prefer to get notifications for both accounts and to use Google Home, but I see that Google Home app doesn’t support Nest Protects yet. Do I have to activate something in my main Google account to get these notifications working ? it’s so frustrating and don’t know what to do. Hope this makes sense to everyone.

On your Floodlight Camera and Indoor Camera, have you enabled notifications under Settings | Device features | Events and under Settings | General | Notifications for each camera in the Google Home app? You will need to do this on whichever account or accounts (personal and business) where you want to receive notifications. And on your iPhone, under Settings | Notifications, "Allow Notifications" should be turned on.

If you have notifications enabled, you will receive them from both the Google Nest app and the Google Home app, separately, depending on the device sending the notification.

Thanks for the reply,

I did check everything as you stated, turned out to be the products I have.

I set up a zone area on the floodlight camera and made sure all notifications were on and I started to receive them from Google Home.

The only downside was that the old nest cam doesn’t get notifications through Google Home App. I get the notifications through the nest app instead because you cannot add this product to Google Home App. Once you link the accounts to each other the camera shows up in Google Home, but any setting info is done in Nest App. Hopefully Google will merge the accounts properly at some stage. ?

I think there are a lot of us existing Google Nest customers who are hoping that Google Nest meets these commitments it made a year ago on Sept. 29, 2021 and gets past the 2-app solution, but there has been no update since:

  • "we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app."
  • "we’ve also been working on rolling out a desktop experience for the Google Home app, so the new Nest cameras and doorbell feeds can be viewed and controlled from there. This will launch in 2022."
  • "we commit to being more transparent with you on where we are taking the camera portfolio."
