Nest won't replace my cracking & peeling doorbell b/c it's out of warranty

Just a warning to anyone who is thinking of purchasing the Nest Hello Doorbell, there is a known issue with it cracking and the top layer peeling.  I contacted Customer Support and they could not replace my unit because it was out of of the 2-year warranty period.  I pressed the point that some of the peeling was over the camera lens but they said it was just a cosmetic issue that "did not affect functionality."  I'm not sure how cracking and peeling of the top layer does not affect a camera's functionality, but that was their position. *shrug*  Anyways, just wanted everyone to be aware of this while deciding whether to buy since it's not a cheap doorbell.
