New Nest Cam (Battery) lacks basic Activity Zones feature

Activity Zones, a basic feature of all previous Nest Cams that allows users to set up motion zones, is unavailable on the new Nest Cam (Battery).  See camera feature matrix here:

This is a showstopper bug in a shipped Google product, and no mention was made of it in any of the marketing materials.  This bug (if it is even a bug), combined with the lack of browser access for Nest Cam (Battery), indicates that Google shipped an unfinished product, and intentionally deceived their customers  about its features.  I am returning the new Nest Cam and will select another company's products.

The Activity Zones feature is available for the new Google Nest Camera Battery. However, due to Google's flawed rollout of this new camera, you have to set up the feature in the Google Home app rather than the Google Nest app. And it's buried in the Google Home app. Click on your new camera in the Google Home app, and click on the Settings gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Select Events, then select Seen Events. You can configure zones on the Seen Events screen, including notifications (but unlike our older Nest cameras, email notifications are not available).

Hi there,

Sorry for my late response. Thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I just wanted to make sure that your issue is addressed. I am terribly sorry to hear that you have had such a hard time with this! I would love to look into this issue further and help find a solution for you. First off, I have some questions I’d like to ask you.

  • Do you still need help with this issue?

  • What troubleshooting steps have you done thus far?

  • Have you tried to restart your device if you haven’t already?

  • If the restart didn’t work, have you tried to do a Factory Reset? This would be a last resort option, but would clear out issues and the device would essentially be ‘brand new’

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.
