New Nest battery doorbell won't connect to wifi

Hi all,

I recently purchased a new Nest doorbell (battery) and attempted to connect it today.

Every time I try to get it connected to WiFi using the Google home app it fails/times-out.

I tried the following:

  • Turn off/on phone
  • Reset my internet connection
  • Turned off 5G WiFi (only 2.4G active)
  • Sat close to the wifi router
  • No wifi extensions/repeaters etc
  • Factory reset the doorbell
  • All of the above at once
  • Tried connecting the doorbell at a different adres and WiFi

Still no luck... I checked the forum but mainly find issues of doorbells working first and having trouble later. I will probably return this device and get a new one but wanted to try and get some support here first.

Thanks!

I just split the 2.4 and 5G wifi signal from my zyxel T56 modem into two seperate wifi signals and tried connecting to only the 2.4G wifi (5G did not even show up).

But still no success.

Stumbled across a forum of my internet provider (Odido NL), it seems to be related to the settings in their modems. As soon as I have time to check if it works I will link the forum here.

Hi JordyNL,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that every time you try to connect your Nest doorbell (battery) to your WiFi network using the Google Home app, it fails. Thank you for sharing with us the troubleshooting steps you’ve tried to resolve the inconvenience so we can advance with more alternatives. No worries, help is here.

I also appreciate you letting us know about the information you found about your ISP (Internet Service Provider); I will be aware of your news on this matter.

It is my pleasure to assist you in resolving the inconvenience you’re facing trying to connect your Nest doorbell (battery) so we can try on our side to find a solution. Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Are you using an Android or an iPhone mobile to set up your Nest doorbell (battery)?
  • What is the make and model of your router?
  • Are you using the latest version of the Google Home app?
  • What color is the LED light on your Google Doorbell battery?
  • Is your mobile device and your Google Doorbell battery connected to the same WiFi frequency band?
  • Are you getting any error messages?
  • Can you see the Google Doorbell battery on your Google Home app devices?
  • Can you find your WiFi Network into the options when you try to connect the Nest doorbell (battery)?

Besides the previous information, I would appreciate it if you could verify the camera’s battery state. Please follow the next instructions:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Verify that the Google Account shown at the top right is the one linked to the camera. To switch accounts, tap your account photo or initials, then tap the drop-down arrow and select the correct account.
  3. Tap Favorites (the heart icon) or Devices (the square with bar icon).
  4. Select the camera from the list of devices.
  5. Tap Settings.
  6. Under Device features, tap Battery.
  7. Please let me know the status of the battery icon you can see (color, level, or symbol).

Thanks for your kind attention; I will be looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

Virna

Issue is resolved!

Root cause were the settings in the ISP Odido NL router, which did not allow for the nest equipment to connect.

ISP remotely changed the settings after requesting it via this Link to their forum. That combined with the phone wifi hotspot workaround (connecting the doorbell to hotspot with identical network name and password) made it work.

But in the end I decided to switch to a TP link router instead because it's just more user friendly.
