I am thinking of buying a new nest indoor camera. I know that it will only work with the google home app, but I am still using the nest app. I’m planning to use the new camera in the home app, and keep the existing cameras in the nest app. Would I need a new nest aware subscription, or would the new camera be covered with my existing subscription.

It depends on which subscription you have. The old, per-camera 1st gen Nest Aware subscription only works for the specific 1st gen cameras and doorbells (installed in the Google Nest app) that are enrolled in the subscription.
The newer, 2nd gen (since 2020) Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions apply to ALL 1st gen and 2nd gen cameras and doorbells on the same Google Account in the same Google Nest "home/structure".
We have had a Nest Aware Plus subscription since 2020. We had to upgrade our Nest Account to a Google Account to do so. We currently have both 1st gen cameras and doorbells installed in the Google Nest app and two 2nd gen cameras installed in the Google Home app; all are covered by our Nest Aware Plus subscription.
