Night vision problem

larrymcj

I have the latest Nest Doorbell (wired) and lately, the night vision has stopped working while in the "Automatic" mode. If I turn night vision on all the time, it works, but then it's not in color during the day. Whenever it stops working, all I have to do is change it to any other available setting in Settings > Video, and it starts working. But the next night it will happen again. I'm on a Gigabit network and have over 850 Mbps measured at the doorbell. Everything else about the doorbell works fine.

Hi larrymcj,

Thanks for reaching out. When did it begin? Were there any recent changes to your setup? Try to reset the Night Vision settings or restart the camera and observe if it makes a difference. Restarting keeps all your settings, and it should reconnect to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever becomes frozen, has trouble connecting to the internet, or isn’t working normally.

Juni

I had already tried all this, but I think I've figured it out. From the doorbell, you can see the glare of the two lights on both sides of the garage door. They were set to 50% and I lowered them to 30% and the night vision automatically kicked in. I raised them back to 50% and night vision went back off again. Now, they're at 30% again and everything is fine.

I have the same issue. Restarting fixes it for one night.
I can’t do this every night. My old nest hello doorbell worked perfectly every night. Now I can’t see what happens at night.

what ultimately resolved this for me was eliminating a light source that was visible to the doorbell. My garage door side lights were on at 50%, and I dropped those to 30% and the doorbell has functioned perfectly ever since. To prove this was the problem source, I increased the garage door lights back to 50%, and the problem returned.

Juni, I'm not sure what response you're expecting from me? I posted a problem, then figured out a solution myself and posted it here in case others might have the same issue. If I've missed something, please let me know. Thanks!
