No longer receiving notifications from cameras

rickytenzer

Since a day or so, I am no longer receiving any notifications from the Google Home app for any of my Nest Cameras. My wife has this same issue. We have checked our Google Home settings and both phones have notifications enabled. I'm not even getting doorbell notifications!

Has this happened for anyone else recently?

  • Is the device detecting events?
    • Yes !!!
    •  I receive all Nest app notifications to my secondary phone (Pixel7a) daily, again 5 min ago.
    • I get all notification from all the other app.
    • My Pixel 9 Pro Xl does not get the NEST APP Notifications.

  • Did you receive any push or email notifications?
    • I never setup email notifications.
    • But since I do receive them on my secondary phone Pixel 7a.
    • Let’s be honest here, they are working fine and are being pushed correctly to that secondary phone. So, no need to setup email notifications.

  • Have you checked your spam folder?
    • Like I said I receive them on my pixel 7a from nest app.
    • So, notifications ARE being sent to the Pixel 7 a. Just not on my pixel 9 pro XL.

  • Has anything changed in your environment?
    • Installed this Pixel 9 Pro from a cloud backup (Google one) like any other devices previously. Followed the noral setup and request from the phone
    • Like I said earlier. If you factory reset the phone and do not install from a backup. THEY WILL WORK, I’ve tried it.
    • I factory reset my Pixel 9 Pro Xl without backup.
      • Setup the device installed Nest app and BAM!
      • Notifications come back,
      • Then reset the phone again, this time, my phone using the automatic Google One backup of last night. No nest app notification goes through.
      • THIS IS THE KEY, please as the support can’t you see there is something wrong there ?
    • Something, a file, a config files or whatever is screwing up notifications from the Nest app if it comes from a backup or a cable transfer.
    • This is frustrating
    • I’ve been saying the same thing for days now ☹

  • Is Airplane or Do Not Disturb mode turned off or on?
    • No I’m not on airplane more of DND. This one is kinda obvious. Duh!

  • Did you try to use a different mobile device?
    • My secondary phone a Pixel 7a YES it does receive the notifications from Nest App.
    • I even tried it as I was writing this message and got it through. Not on my Pixel 9 Pro Xl.
    • Heck even my boyfriend’s iPhone still get’s them.
  • Is this issue constant or intermittent?
    • Constant on my Pixel 9 Pro.
    • Works perfectly on my Pixel 7a Backup phone.
    • Works perfectly on my Boyfriends iPhone.

I’ll repeat AGAIN, last year when I bought a new Pixel 8 Pro the same thing happened.

The ONLY, and might I make an emphasis ONLY thing that worked was factory reset without backup or cable transfer from a previous device.

Reality is, not coming from a backup is NOT AN OPTION anymore, got too many app parameters etc.

Please fix this.

Solution was found. 😃👍🏼

Open the Settings app on your device.

Tap System > Languages > Regional preferences.

Ensure all sub-settings (e.g., Temperature, First day of week) are set to "Use default."

Close and reopen the Nest app.

It worked for me. Thank to google support who contacted me personnel to resolve this issue

These settings have not changed on my phone and I still have the issue.

Maybe try to select a language then set it back to default? 2 of my 8 camera needed to redo zones for it to work. The others worked correctly. This is sooooo random this issue 🤦🏼‍♂️

This finally worked for me with a Pixel 7!

1) Changed the regional settings to non default

2) Cleared cache & Storage. Uninstalled the Google home app

3) Removed other languages

4) Changed regional sub settings to default

5) Reinstalled google home

I finally got mine to work with a 'workaround'.

  1. clear cache from the app
  2. delete any zones you have on all cameras
  3. un-install the app
  4. reboot phone
  5. re-install app
  6. do not add the zones back

What made you take these steps?

Any updated fix actions? I'm not getting notifications and have made zero changes. I've deleted the doorbell and added it back and still nothing. My wife has a Pixel 4 and son has a Pixel 6A...they both get notifications. I have a pixel 6A and get nothing.

And yes, I've checked all the notifications tabs and reset my phone. I've confirmed the settings are the same with my son's Pixel 6A... which he gets notifications but I don't.

Even this is not working ?

Open the Settings app on your device.

Tap System > Languages > Regional preferences.

Ensure all sub-settings (e.g., Temperature, First day of week) are set to "Use default."

Close and reopen the Nest app.

Not OP, but I never changed the Regional Preferences settings on my phone (I confirmed they were all "use default"). They were always set to the "correct" setting, still issues.

Confirmed settings were correct... still not getting notifications.

ETA: 9/30/24- now even reinstalling doesn't work.  I get zero notifications. Short of turning my portal to full volume, my doorbell is a useless piece of plastic.

I'm also not getting any notifications from my doorbell.  The only thing that fixes it is uninstalling and reinstalling the home app which is a pain because you have to reset a lot and then it only works for a day or 2 before they stop again. I'm about to trash the doorbell and just get a ring. Samsung Galaxy S24+.

I finally started getting notifications today.

The battery died on one of my wireless nest cameras (without notifications I didn't get the low batter notice) and then suddenly I am getting notifications.

Now I am curious whether I will still get notifications when that camera is recharged and I put it back up.

I had to uninstall and reinstall again yesterday to get notifications working again. And as usual Google is silent.

Unbelievable.  I ordered a Ring last night and notifications started working again this morning.  LMAO.
